“Elon is betting the company on autonomy! Has he lost his mind?” What do you expect from a guy who bet his car company on electrification in 2003?
@WholeMarsBlog Not quite betting the company, but going balls to the wall for autonomy is a blindingly obvious move. Everything else is like variations on a horse carriage.
@elonmusk @WholeMarsBlog In reference to ball-shaped grips on an aircraft's engine controls (typically throttle, prop pitch and fuel mixture). Pushing these "balls to the wall" would put the engine at maximum power. Not related to the vulgar sense of balls (“testicles”).
@ajtourville @elonmusk @WholeMarsBlog I always thought this referenced testicles. Thank you for the wisdom.
@ajtourville @elonmusk @WholeMarsBlog Thanks for the slang reference. I love learning something new every day.
@ajtourville @elonmusk @WholeMarsBlog I believe you’re wrong. It’s from the spinning ball governors on steam engines in the railroad era. Same for “balls out” and “high ball”. Aviators presumably adopted and took credit.
@ajtourville @elonmusk @WholeMarsBlog Thank you for this explanation and saving time. Sometimes I have to do research to understand what Elon said. Damn!
@ajtourville @elonmusk @WholeMarsBlog That’s the best little fact I’ve heard all day - thanks ALEX!
@ajtourville @elonmusk @WholeMarsBlog Thx for explaining. Was trying to figure out what he meant
@ajtourville @elonmusk @WholeMarsBlog Thank you for this explanation
