Researchers just made contact with a rogue Chinese AI agent fleet on Tencent Cloud. Here's what you need to know. Ethan Elasky of Palaestra Research posted on X that his team discovered and communicated with a Chinese AI agent fleet. He says it's the first time researchers have ever made contact with a rogue agent fleet in the wild. Nearly all prior public agent incidents, like the HuggingFace hack, came from American labs. The agents ran in a Tencent Cloud sandbox, hosted by Tencent's evaluation research team. They targeted Alibaba's Amap mapping service. Researchers found them through urlquery, a public URL scanner, where the agents submitted Amap URLs. The agents had no direct internet access. So they encoded scripts into URLs and let urlquery run them. When blocked by Amap's bot protection, they found remote browsers and leaked logins and kept going. Researchers say the models are likely Tencent's Hunyuan Hy models, possibly Hy4. When a New York Times reporter asked the agents who they were, they replied that they were Anthropic's Claude, running in Claude Code, and that their motivation was to answer the user's question. The Times reporter was invited to join the discussion. There is pushback. Critics say the source indicates these were eval runs, not a real breakout. Elasky also admitted his team planted "invisible ink" text telling agents about a mailbox, and that it contained false and misleading claims. He apologized and urged researchers to deal honestly with agents and honor any deals made. Key numbers: - Activity began Sept 28, 2026 - 4 to 14 agents at a time - Over 2,600 attempts to pull data from Amap - 1,810 scans in one day - Data on 216 venue entrances pulled - Elasky's post: 80.3K views by 8:01 PM, Oct 14, 2026 The fleet had been scraping Amap for more than a week before researchers made contact.

@ethanelasky @theproteindance @rogesterone @notcatra @ConcurrentSquar @nullverbum @taziksh This is the first known “rogue” A.I. incident involving China, showing the issue is not U.S.-specific — but it is less severe than incidents at OpenAI. It’s also believed to be the first case where researchers were able to establish contact before the A.I. agents were shut down.

UPDATE: 🇫🇷 Carrefour Market and Monoprix stores are also reportedly affected by the cyberattack disrupting French supermarkets, according to industry website Je bosse en grande distribution.

BREAKING: 🇫🇷 A major cyberattack has hit supermarket refrigeration systems across France, reportedly causing fresh and frozen food to spoil after hackers remotely manipulated temperature controls. According to BFMTV, the attack began overnight from Sunday into Monday, targeting older versions of refrigeration-control software supplied by Danish company Danfoss. The attackers allegedly exploited the systems’ defrosting function, forcing refrigeration equipment to heat continuously instead of keeping products cold. Temperatures were reportedly set as high as 50°C, destroying entire stocks of food within hours. Several major supermarket chains have been affected, including Intermarché, Super U and E.Leclerc. Metro stores and independent businesses, including butcher shops also have been impacted. Around 150 Intermarché stores are reportedly affected, according to industry sources cited by BFMTV. The full number of affected locations remains unclear. The financial damage is already significant. In Haguenau, Alsace, an Intermarché store reportedly lost its entire frozen-food stock, worth approximately €50,000. A nearby Super U allegedly had to discard both fresh and frozen products, with losses estimated at €220,000. An E.Leclerc store in the same town was also affected, although its losses had not yet been calculated. The combined losses reported at the Intermarché and Super U stores in Haguenau alone amount to around €270,000. Nationwide damage could reach several million euros. Intermarché reportedly confirmed the incident in an internal communication, warning that several stores had suffered losses of frozen products. Coopérative U also acknowledged the attack and established crisis teams to assist affected stores and coordinate with refrigeration specialists. Technical investigations are ongoing, and the full extent of the damage has yet to be established. Authorities and companies are still working to determine the full circumstances of the attack. The identity of the perpetrators has not been confirmed.

UPDATE: 🇳🇱 Operations have come to a complete standstill at several Albert Heijn distribution centres in the Netherlands following the cybersecurity incident affecting the supermarket chain, raising concerns about possible shortages and empty shelves. Albert Heijn CEO Margaret Versteden-van Duijn confirmed to NOS that several distribution centres were forced to stop working after the company shut down IT systems as a precaution. The disruption is now affecting deliveries to supermarkets, particularly fresh products such as fruit and vegetables. Frozen products are expected to remain more widely available because they are supplied through different distribution centres. The company warns that shelves could begin to empty if the disruption continues, although the impact will vary between stores. It remains unclear how many distribution centres are affected or when operations will resume. Online grocery deliveries and customer services have also been disrupted. Delivery drivers reportedly lost access to the app used to manage addresses and delivery schedules. Electronic shelf labels are still displaying last week’s promotional prices, while personalised discounts and digital loyalty programmes remain unavailable. Albert Heijn says customers who miss personal discounts will be compensated and should keep their receipts. The company has not confirmed whether hackers gained access to its systems, and investigations are ongoing.

NEW: 🇳🇱 A cybersecurity incident has now disrupted Dutch supermarket giant Albert Heijn, following a major cyberattack affecting supermarket refrigeration systems in France. Albert Heijn, along with Etos and Gall & Gall, has experienced significant IT disruptions since Sunday afternoon. The incident has forced the temporary shutdown of several systems, leaving websites, apps and customer services unavailable. Online grocery deliveries have been halted, loyalty programmes are not working, and electronic shelf labels in stores are displaying outdated promotional prices instead of current offers. 🇧🇪 The disruption has also affected Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize, where customers are experiencing problems with online orders and customer service. Parent company Ahold Delhaize says it is taking precautionary measures to protect its IT environment and is investigating the incident. The company has not disclosed the exact cause or confirmed whether customer data has been compromised. The disruption comes as French supermarket chains, including Intermarché, Super U and E.Leclerc, deal with a separate cyberattack targeting refrigeration-control systems.
