My first draft of this post got an F. I've been coaching the @alpha_founders students on building an audience on X. Giving feedback on posts is the most helpful, but I can't read every single one. So I took my notes and built a Tweet Grader into their audience building tool. 14 criteria are scored 1-5, it even pulls in trending topics on X to see if you're leveraging one and runs a Pangram report. As with all our AI feedback tools, it's extremely strict. My first version of this post only scored 1.9/5! But it pointed out how my hook could be improved, that I needed more concrete details, and a resolution to the story. Saying you can help someone is...very easy. But, getting specific about what you’ll help them accomplish, by when, and how much risk you’ll take on requires a lot more thought. So when we teach offer creation, we walk them through the very offer we made to their parents.

• What will their teenager actually accomplish? • How long will it take to achieve that goal? • How confident are we that we can help them get there? We have our students through these types of questions when they’re building offers for their own businesses.

This week I've emailed 100s of potential customers. One big thing stood out: Clients paying less are SIGNIFICANTLY pickier. One example of this was a meeting with a client yesterday. We were showing him the demos we made, and he was very vocal about small complaints. He also wanted us to go very in-depth on every tiny details in the demos. Then when we told him the price, his jaw dropped and he immediately said he was out. On the other hand, our client "Jack", who is paying 5x more, had a completely different mindset. He gave concise feedback about what he wanted and then trusted us to implement. He understood that he had to pay a premium for the results he wanted. Lesson: sometimes, clients paying more are easier to work with, not harder.

A small example of a different kid I’m seeing since enrolling @Alphaschool: My daughter plays with friends down the street after school. When they start to bicker, it’s time for everyone to go home. Today when a pair of siblings started fighting, my daughter sat everyone down and asked them all to calmly describe their feelings. She ran a mini townhall. They shared what they wanted to change about how they played together, new rules they should agree to implement, and how they’ll treat each other going forward. Afterwards they all reorganized their play space so it’s better suited for the make believe game they usually play together to avoid the fight. The parents called me and asked what was going on at our house because they’ve never seen her (or another kid) initiate any of this before. She’s 8.

i have a 1 y/o son, and with how fast AI is moving, it's just impossible not to wonder what his education will look like. it's completely obvious the traditional education model is outdated and about to get disrupted in a massive way. so i've been thinking a lot about the things i ideally want in my son's future schooling: > a personalized-to-him AI tutor if something comes naturally to him, let him breeze through it. if he's struggling, explain it using examples from things he's interested in, so it holds his attention and actually makes sense to him. i think hed learn so much faster that way (instead of being stuck at the same pace as every other 8-year-old just because they were born in the same year) > critical thinking, especially around AI. i want him to get comfortable asking "how do we know that's true?" whether it's something AI tells him, something he reads online, or even something i tell him. then learn to look for evidence before deciding what he believes. i want him to learn to write without AI too, because putting his own thoughts into words is part of learning how to think i also want him to learn to sit with difficult problems before asking AI to solve them > learning by building things. i think @nateliason's founders school in nyc is an awesome example of this. students build their own businesses with the goal of $1M profit before graduation. i want my son getting out into the world, testing his ideas, making mistakes, and learning from what happens. in fact just finding out why someone won't buy what you made is a pretty good education on its own > room to follow whatever he's obsessed with. if he's into rockets, use that to teach him physics and math. help him build one. i want him to experience how exciting learning can be when you actually care about the thing you're trying to figure out. > good human teachers who have time to actually get to know him. people who notice when he's frustrated, challenge him when he's taking the easy way out, and introduce him to things he wouldn't have discovered on his own. > a LOT of time around other kids. yes, AI will make homeschooling incredibly good academically. but a huge part of school is learning how to be around other humans. making friends, disagreeing without being an asshole, learning humility ,surviving embarassing moments. you have to actually live through that stuff i'm hoping we have a lot more schools like this to choose from by the time he's old enough!

The point is to spend those 3 academic hours on things every student must learn and understand. At Founders School, that leaves the rest of the day for building million dollar businesses 🚢

3️⃣ Students practice taking responsibility for their learning. Working independently means learning to notice when you’re stuck, ask for help, and stay focused when nobody is directing you. Those habits matter when the academic work ends and students turn to their businesses.

At @alpha_founders, students spend about 3 hours/day on academics. That’s enough to give our students the best education possible. It sounds very little until you think about what a typical classroom set up looks like…

One fun part of being an @Alphaschool parent is seeing your child's metrics & pace of learning. E.g. based on this, with a moderate amount of homework during the week my daughter could finish Kindergarten math by the New Year.
