Teachers can only deduct $250 in school supplies on their taxes, but:
•Bezos can write off his super yacht
•Musk can write off his jet
•Waltons can write off their mansions
Why? B/c millionaires write tax law for billionaires. We need a Congress for working people—not the .1%
In the last four decades, CEO pay is up 1,322% and median worker pay is up 18%.
Can someone explain to me why the 1,322% doesn't contribute to inflation but the 18% does?
If Jeff Bezos can afford to dismantle a bridge in Europe so that his $500 million, 417-foot mega-yacht can get to the other side, you know what? Mr. Bezos can afford to pay his fair share of taxes to build a bridge out of poverty for working class families in America.
The middle section of Rotterdam’s 95-year-old Koningshaven Bridge will be temporarily dismantled so that a 417-foot superyacht being built for Jeff Bezos can pass underneath it. nyti.ms/3AYFvuG
Starbucks is raising prices again, blaming supply chain issues and labor costs.
Meanwhile, Starbucks CEO’s total compensation rose 39% in 2021 to $20.4 million.
Do not be fooled. This is about corporate greed. It always is.
Kroger paid its CEO $22,000,000.
Meanwhile, 63% of Kroger supermarket workers say they can’t afford basic expenses.
8,000 Colorado workers at nearly 80 Kroger-owned grocery stores just went on strike.
Friends: Now is the time to boycott Kroger.
While the owners of Walmart, the wealthiest family in the country, became over $60 billion richer during the pandemic, they are now slashing the paid leave of their employees in half. Outrageous. We must end corporate greed and raise the minimum wage to at least $15 an hour.
In the 1950s, CEOs made about 20x more than the average worker.
In the 1980s, CEOs made about 40x more than the average worker.
Today, the CEOs of this country are making 350x more than what the average worker makes.
It's not easy to stand up to your boss and say, 'you know what? I'm a human being, I have rights, I deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.' But all over this country, you're seeing workers standing up, organizing, and fighting back. Solidarity — that's how you win power.
This pandemic makes it clear how dysfunctional our healthcare system is. Not only do we pay the highest prices in the world, we can’t even produce the number of doctors and nurses that we desperately need. Let us not give up the struggle for Medicare for All.
I voted against NAFTA.
I voted against PNTR with China.
It was obvious to me then, and it is obvious to me now that what these large corporations want is to pay desperate people in other countries a buck an hour instead of paying workers in America decent wages.
Everybody in America must understand that the scientists are telling us we have very little time to transform our energy system away from fossil fuels to prevent future disasters. The time to address the climate crisis is NOW.
The time is now for the Democratic Party to restore faith with the American people and show them that we are prepared to take on the powerful to address the long neglected needs of the working class.
Millions of people around the world are already experiencing the devastating effects of climate change.
The price of waiting until it is too late to address the climate crisis is far greater than the cost of coming together to combat climate change NOW. We must act.
We will all be safer when we are all vaccinated. But right now, fewer than 3% of people in low-income countries have been vaccinated. We must take on the greed of the pharmaceutical industry and grant a temporary patent waiver to unlock vaccine production in developing countries.
I don't know how you look at Kellogg's, who is raking in BILLIONS in profits on the backs of workers doing 12-hour shifts for 100 days in a row and say that those workers do not deserve decent wages, decent working conditions, and dignity on the job. Not a radical idea!
Kellogg's workers kept the country fed during a global pandemic, bringing Kellogg's BILLIONS in profits.
Can Kellogg's afford to negotiate in good faith with the workers demanding dignity? Absolutely.
This Friday, I'm headed to Michigan to stand with the workers. Join me.
