Neat to see #DnD hitting the main stream & being recognized for its educational, social and developmental benefits. The barrier for entry is easier now then it was in the 70's with people like @mattcolville @matthewmercer & the @CriticalRole team showing how the game is played.

It was the youngest’s first game of #DnD and all 3’s first #DnD5e. Everyone had a great time. Last roll of the game was a Nat20 and as we’re packing up the youngest said “ that was exactly what I thought D&D should be.” Can’t think of higher praise from a new player.

Another reddit trend I've seen is for new DMs to ask: I've planned something for my players but I'm not sure if I should do it... I've learned to trust my gut. If in doubt, don't do it! (One of the best things about being a DM is that there's always another option!)

Something I've noticed from lurking on the DnD subreddits - lots of new DMs have questions about how to keep their players' attention. There's only one real answer: keep the game interesting. Do more of what your players enjoy. Do less of what bores them. Do you agree?

A magic item for #dnd #dnd5e #ttrpg Golden Butterfly: When the gossamer wings are unfurled and the mechanism is gently warmed, it takes to the air and flies for a few seconds. Anyone who sees the butterfly in flight feels happy and will be in a good mood for at least an hour...

It's amazing to play #dnd with youngsters because their imaginations are so free and so powerful. When I challenged my 5 year-old daughter with a green slime, without a second's hesitation, she said, 'I magic a big Kleenex and wipe it up!' 😂

New #dnd players often think that everything they encounter is a challenge they must defeat or a puzzle they must solve - if they want to win the game. I thought I was an Evil DM, but I heard myself saying: 'Now would be a good time to run away!'😲

I help new #dnd players begin #roleplaying by giving them an easy hook. The cornier and more clichéd the better! Drunken Dwarf with his barrel of ale, Scholarly Wizard with his book of spells, Sneaky Thief with her ring of invisibility. Instant 1st game fun! How do you do it?

Sometimes new #dnd players can feel awkward playing this weird nerdy game - especially in front of other people. So I like to use a mini-game to break the ice and introduce some of the #dnd5e rules. Instant mayhem, fun & laughter! I'd love to hear what you use in your games!
