Most boards think storing data in a UK/EU data center removes cross-border risk. It doesn't. Under the US CLOUD Act, jurisdiction follows corporate ownership, not server geography. @SabineVdL This is the biggest challenge I've seen with people coming from a traditional insurer > insurtech. They are used to committees, slow approval processes, rather than test, fix, learn, quickly.
Hi Shai, I know why the 30-day window exists, but it feels "traditional insurer" approach. Couple of thoughts: 1. If a customer is switching from another insurer, they could, in theory, have the treatment already funded by the incumbent insurer (if the treatment is included). So minimises the fraud risk - maybe allow for this? 2. Consider a vets check up within, say, 7 days of the policy, and anything picked up, e.g. eye infection) is not covered? Bake it into the pricing as a policy benefit.

@chamath Great point. The real challenge is the messy middle - mixed AV/non-AV car parc creates more complex risk modelling. Govts (i.e. UK) need to stop dragging their feet and accelerate the transition, not slow-roll it. Clean separation is easier to price than transitional chaos.
Spot on about the strategic logic - but execution is everything in insurance partnerships. Success hinges on alignment of interest: UW appetite, pricing philosophy, and most critically, a customer-first claims experience that protects the brand relationship. Without that alignment, you're better building in-house where you control the fundamentals. Half-baked partnerships that treat insurance as a checkbox become expensive distractions quickly. Lemonade should be that - let's see.
