Fellow investigators, please DO NOT DO THIS; quote one price but then add a bunch of fees to invoice for things that were neither asked for nor discussed prior. I'm now stung with an invoice around 50% higher than client authorised.

The bank found in favour of my client re cc dispute which means she git the job done for nothing and I ended up wearing the costs incurred as well. So I guess I'm going to contact the subject of the investigation and let them know who hired me and why. And provide their details.

Lawyer contacts me just before noon asking for a quote to print and bind a 1000+ page document to serve at the Court before 4pm. Their client decides that the urgency fee, which really only covered my additional time for printing and binding, was too much. Good luck!

In other 'Things That Have Annoyed Me Today' news I am meeting a client to pick up cash because bank refused to accept because of anti-money laundering. She can't pay by usual bank transfer because then husband will be aware and he's subject of upcoming surveillance.

Had a client try to reverse credit card payment citing she 'never received product or service' presumably because results were not to her liking. Now have to wait 1-3 months for disputes process to resolve.

Just found a dead person. No, I didn't stumble on a body, client needed a death record but had erroneous info (wrong date of birth, wrong year of death etc) so no records found. Old adage still holds true: garbage in, garbage out.

I think I offended a would-be client with a 'quick job' by telling her that it was a 2-hour minimum billing. If I have to go out at 10pm on a Saturday night to do your 'quick job' you're paying for the inconvenience.
