🧵I am happy to share that our paper is published at @GEB_macro! We delved into the question of how different types of climbing mechanisms, a distinctive trait of lianas' life history, contribute to their functional and taxonomic diversity across the tropics.🌿🔬
Building upon the study of Speroto et al. (2020), which proposed a climbing mechanisms classification for lianas, we developed a framework to assess the functional and taxonomic diversity of two main types of climbing mechanisms used by lianas: active and passive climbing 👇🏾
Main findings: lianas with active climbing exhibit a higher functional richness than the ones with passive climbing; and the paleoclimate left a strong legacy effect on both active and passive climbing species, therefore shaping present-day patterns of lianas distribution.
