10/10 "Why are you doing this?" Because I needed this explained to me once and nobody would. Not affiliated with the FCC, USAC, or any carrier. Nothing to sell. Keep asking — I read all of them.

9/10 "Can I get help with my heating bill too?" Worth checking. LIHEAP runs to 150% of the poverty guidelines — more generous than Lifeline's 135% — and your state runs it, under whatever name it uses.

Put four things in one folder before you start the Lifeline application: Government photo ID Something current with your name and address Benefit letter dated within 12 months, or 3 months of pay stubs Household names and birthdates Most people denied had the docs.

There's a kind of Lifeline site that isn't a scam. It's just unnecessary. Third-party enrollment pages take your details and walk you through an application you could file free yourself at checklifeline.org. Some are carriers. Some sell your data on. Start federal.

8/8 Check Lifeline at checklifeline.org either way. Then check your state utility commission or human services agency for anything of its own. Not affiliated with any of them. Nothing to sell you.

7/8 Why this matters outside those three states: State programs get built when the people who'd benefit are visible and the demand is documented. New Mexico didn't happen because a legislature had a spare idea.

1/8 ACP ended in 2024 and Congress hasn't replaced it. Three states built their own. Here's what actually exists, and why it matters even if you don't live in one of them. 🧵
