QR codes can do double duty for SMEs offering EV charging: - stick a QR code on the charger for drivers to scan & point directly to the activation page (no app download!) - use a QR code as a redemption voucher to offer free/discounted paying charging for paying customers

Was happy to see a whole row of EVs as part of Eastern Health's fleet & plenty of chargers for them to top up. While they were all white there was a whole variety of makes, models & car types. Too bad they don't have public chargers for patients or visitors.

For SMEs, there are alternatives to pricing by kWh (& reasons why); - by time (your parking location is in high demand) - coupons (you want to subsidise charging for paying customers) - off-peak pricing (you're ok with charging outside biz hours)

NSW govt announced a new funding round to install 500+ kerbside EV chargers. It's an attempt to address the issue of almost 1-in-3 EV drivers in NSW not having access to off-street parking to charge. Unsurprisingly the targeted LGAs are mostly inner-city. zpr.io/2vy9ayMM

Some CPOs get worried about idle fees, especially when they see EV chargers bringing in customers. Some alternatives: - SOC limits to 80 or 90% - time limits - queuing system Combine these with notifications, letting drivers know when charge/time is up & others are waiting.

Were free-forever DC fast chargers just a pipedream? Absolutely. Always-free fast chargers without idle fees & a transparent queuing system would always lead to misuse & abuse. Throw in a small number of chargers & it's a recipe for disaster.

Under new EU rules, chargers with at least 400 kW output must be placed at least every 60km along primary routes by 2026. We can usually learn a lot from what the EU implements, especially in the green & renewable space, & this should be no different. zpr.io/4pSUyAJHgg8

Some CPOs have implemented a transparent queue system as an alternative to a booking feature. Whilst many EV drivers self-organise via PlugShare, a queuing system via the charging station's app is a lot more obvious & fair.

Tesla unveiled a new V4 Supercharger in Europe with what a keen owner spotted was a credit card reader & physical space for a screen. For EV drivers without the Tesla app, readers & screens would make it much easier to use superchargers. zpr.io/SqdGJYfZeYEb

Would be great to see more sites with a mix of Level 2 & 3 chargers, especially in urbanly dense areas. This would allow for mixed use; those who need a quick charge & those who are charging while they shop, dine or whatever. You don't always need the fastest charge.

The impact of this will be much bigger than Tesla opening up its network earlier this year. It involves Ford planning to adopt the NACS charging standard as well as Ford EVs having access to all superchargers in the network. A win-win for both. zpr.io/j6VbjDu6iN7g

At my regular shopping centre, a note was left by centre management on one of the EVs using the chargers to respect the 3-hour time limit. There are better ways to do this. With AutomateOn you can set idle fees or notify the user they need to move.
