James Talarico keeps confusing Christian charity with government dependency. Jesus absolutely commanded us to feed the hungry, care for the poor, and help the sick. But that command was given to Christians, not the government. Christians are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Taking someone else’s money, running it through the government, and calling it compassion isn’t the same thing as personally answering Christ’s call to serve your neighbor.

Watch the bait-and-switch: A) When the Bible is used to advance a “conservative” cause, it’s “evil Christian Nationalism” (that he’s spent his entire campaign decrying) or it’s “forcing your religion on other people” and must be FORECEFULLY DENOUNCED. But when the Bible is used to advance a progressive cause, aw shucks it’s just me being Christlike, “speaking truth to power”, and seeking “justice” or “compassion.” His whole campaign is, ”Christian Nationalism for ME, but not for THEE” and hoping you won’t notice. B) What progressives do is take the commands Jesus gave to INDIVIDUALS and apply them to the GOVERNMENT. When Christians use words like “caring” or “generous” they mean caring for people and being generous with their own resources. When progressives use the words “caring” and “generous”, they mean “vote for the government to forcibly take OTHER PEOPLE’S RESOURCES at gunpoint and redistribute it against their will.” Of course, this *always* backfires because governments do not work like people and churches, so with governments you tends to get more of what you INCENTIVIZE and less of what you PENALIZE. This is why cities and states that throw billions of $ at “solving homelessness” end up with MORE HOMELESSNESS, they do not “solve homelessness.” This is a theology-nerd thing, but in general progressives want the government to do the roles of the church and individual (charity, compassion, care), and they want NOBODY to do the role of the State (administer justice and be a “terror to the wrongdoer”). ^^^this always results in societal chaos and darkness. Further… What Talarico (and other progressives) always do is selevtively edit Jesus, so that he becomes a mascot for their cause. I can do a “when Jesus…” list too, but James won’t like mine… - When Jesus defined marriage, he defined it as only between a man and a woman - When Jesus talked about gender, he rooted it in biology, saying “he made them male and female” - When Jesus talked about harming children (abortion), he said it would be better for you to have millstone tied around your neck and be cast into the ocean - … that time when Jesus encouraged his followers to buy weapons for self-defense (Luke 22:36) - Jesus’ family strictly obeyed the government’s border / migration / census laws. - When Jesus talked about salvation, he said belief in him was the ONLY WAY - When Jesus healed the sick, he didn’t need a deductible… there were no insurance companies in AD 30, and Jesus was using miraculous power, not paying doctors. This would be like an anti-vaxxer saying “JESUS WASNT VACCINATED!” as justification for their position) - When Jesus fed the hungry, he FED THE HUNGRY. He did not vote for the government to forcibly take other people’s stuff at gunpoint and redistribute it against their will. I could go on and on and on and on… The point is, Jesus is a LORD of the universe, not a MASCOT for your cause.

Only after receiving that stadium spotlight was she also told to cover her shirt. A women’s league run by women decided a shirt saying “For the girls” was too offensive and controversial to wear. Meanwhile, State Farm Arena will put a pro-trans message on the big screen — but won’t allow a shirt that states a basic biological truth. In 2019, in an effort to communicate why Christians should care about politics, I came up with this mantra: “Politics matters because policy matters because people matter. Politics affects policy, policy affects people, and people matter.” Abortion is perhaps the most obvious example of that truth. The legalized slaughter of babies should be enough to animate every Christian to do everything possible, both personally and politically, to join the fight. I have no tolerance for the Christians - and especially the pastors - who see abortion as “too divisive” and therefore a subject to be avoided or caveated to death. We are literally talking about helpless babies being poisoned and dismembered. It is the child sacrifice of old, just euphemized and sterilized. If you can’t speak up now, you wouldn’t have spoken up then. For all of the black square posting, social justice posturing of Mushy Middle Christians, when it comes to something as tangible and as clear as abortion, suddenly they’re full of nuance and trepidation. Let me break it you: abortion isn’t nuanced. They’re just cowards. And it’s not because they “don’t want to be political,” it’s because they don’t want to be Biblical. You can’t even get through Genesis 1 without seeing the sanctity of life, the definition of marriage, and the reality of male and female. For the Christian, these aren’t just “culture war” issues. They’re Biblical ones. And if you won’t engage in them, it’s not because you don’t want to be divisive, it’s because you don’t want to be a Christian. Christians have stood against the slaughter and objectification of children for millennia. Hi @ZohranKMamdani, I did some math for you. Grocery runs on 1-3% margins. You’re promising 30% off. That gap doesn’t vanish, taxpayers cover it. Per store: $5.4M/year in sales, but a 30% discount means giving up $1.6M in revenue, a $1.5M annual loss, per store. Across 5 stores: $7.5-8M/year in ongoing losses, plus the $70M already approved to build them, plus zero rent and zero property tax. Total cost to taxpayers, year one: about $78 million and then a permanent tax year after that, forever. And that’s assuming government does everything perfectly and tell me the last time that happened in the history of humanity. And then you compete with private bodegas, small businesses paying full rent and taxes, run on the same razor-thin margins. Subsidized city stores selling 30% below market could push 10-20 bodegas citywide toward closing. This isn’t affordability. It’s a tax hike disguised as a discount and a private business killer affecting mostly hard working Hispanic  immigrants just trying to do the right thing and make a living. Shameful!
