I have a great helper who shelves the books in the library every 1st Nutrition Break. She loves to stay around later and build with the blocks. “I just love the quiet,” she said. Me too. Makes me wonder how we find & create quiet for our kids & for ourselves. ❤️❤️❤️

We are looking at not only creating words using sounds, but also exploring heard words more. Working together to create them with magnetic letters worked so well. ❤️ Now to move to writing some short phrases and reading them too.
This group is also looking at letter formation and size while also reviewing digraphs. Th remains the hardest digraph. The review is helping.
We are working up to some four-sound words now. Trying to also look at letter location and size. This is a learning curve, but students are improving.❤️
We looked at the /h/ sound today in UFLI. This linked with writing. Can kids read back what they wrote & what others wrote? This also had us looking at the sounds in “Shawn,” when it came up during the writing.
I had to work in a different space today. The kids loved the opportunity to write directly on the table. They were much better with the use of lowercase letters today.
This I Spy Game had kids not only reading words, but thinking about vocabulary. What do the words mean?

This Grade 1 student always asks to read with me. I saw him in the hall and suggested we read this together. He told me he couldn’t. Listen to him read the text. Reminds me of why we need children to read in all kinds of different contexts & see themselves as readers. ❤️❤️❤️
S. wanted to join A. today. They worked through this book together. It was great to see their use of letter-sound knowledge while reading. We could also discuss what was happening in the text.❤️
I’m overjoyed that educators are now trying out Acadience on their own and we’re updating groups based on the data. I truly work with incredible people!❤️❤️❤️ My #dailyjoy indeed.
I did some progress monitoring today. Loves seeing how students have retained new learning from the lessons and are becoming more confident in their reading.❤️
These students are becoming so much more confident as they read. P. was still learning letter-sounds back in September. Today she confidently read a 4-sound word. Growth in reading brings me joy! ❤️❤️❤️

What brought me joy today? Hearing that some teachers, after Acadience training, are using the program with their students. They are trying it out and talking with others about it. Love that they are feeling more confident the more times they use it.❤️
Had the greatest conversation with @MarshallJ2032 and Lina N. today about UFLI, CRRP, equity, & the use of visuals to support some learners. Such rich dialogue! ❤️ Grateful for mentorship and the opportunity to connect with other reading specialists.
On prep today, the Gr.2 teachers & I re-looked at our groupings&moved some kids around based on recent data. We were chatting about how often we’ve modified groups this year. Flexible groupings that address the needs of kids created by a team of educators brings me so much joy!❤️

@avivaloca They didn’t at the start of the year but we’ve been using progress monitoring and they are improving. We’ve talked about types of words that would work and using predictions. It is improving but by bit.

@BeCre8ive50 @thinkSRSD Yes, it's how we mark and score our writing to make sure it has all the parts of TIDE. Topic is green, information is yellow, detail is orange, ending is red. I have my students aim for three pieces of information and details.

@avivaloca Fluency pyramids are also a great way to scaffold. For kiddos who have a hard time with the connected text the sentence being broken down really helps. We do a pyramid on day 1 and the connected text on day 2.
