My great uncle. Pre-Nazi Viennese Bohemia
@barneyronay looks like two mick jaggers. in a good way.
@HassayJohn It’s a deliberately grotesque school of art. Vienna was frightening. Mein Kampf had been published three years earlier. Within a decade many of those people living artsy lives in Vienna would be transported elsewhere by you know who
@barneyronay @HassayJohn Our relatives may have known each other. Which reminds me of an interesting, as yet, unsolved mystery. In Inglourious Basterds, Cristoph Waltz plays a Nazi called Hans Landa. Everything I can find on the internet says Hans Landa was Tarantino's invention. But...
@barneyronay @HassayJohn My Mum has papers recording the application of a Nazi called Hans Landa to appropriate my relatives' property in Vienna in 1941. I'd love to know if Tarantino got the name from real documents. I've yet to try to nail this down.
@barneyronay @HassayJohn But Landa isn't a common name, as far as I'm aware. It feels like far too much of a coincidence.
@ByRobDavies One of the most frightening movie villains ever made. This must have give you some very weird chills
@barneyronay Only found out after I'd seen it. This has given me the motivation to see if I can chase it down.
