Confession: if the client had pushed me to push through illness to make the deadline, I'd have done it. I've done it so many times before. Did 100 hours a week on Stan Lee's autobiography, ended up working in bed, crawling to bathroom, puking, then going back to work. Ah, comics.
I don't recommend this to anyone, but when you've been in comics a long time, you're kind of hard wired to go hard core. But last night I slept 14 hours. And I did a bit of gardening today. Now I'm drawing. It's nice.
I don't really have an off switch. Someone has to tell me it's OK to turn off. I'd never do it on my own.
@barrylyga Yeah, it's pricy, part of my hesitation. But honestly, having formatted a bunch of stuff myself - it pays for itself in one book given the hours of labor I'll get back and the work I can get done with that time (or what I'd expect to pay a freelancer to do this part).
The one hobby I haven't tried to monetize yet is painting minis for TTRPGs. I prime minis using black gesso, which is the best trick I know. That being said, when I do prime minis, I come out of the studio looking like an outtake from There Will Be Blood. COVERED in gesso.
