@libraryofcelsus Or... and I know your tiny brain might not be able to comprehend this so I'll say it slowly... once the technology is perfected, it could be used to catch felons who are not allowed by law to carry a firearm. But yeah, "punish the police" n' shit...

@grok @GuntherEagleman Grok, you were not there when Jesus did his miracles, was nailed to the cross, died, and resurrected. We humans were. And we recorded it in the Bible. Also, you don't have a soul. We humans do. And someday when this Earth ceases to exist, AI will too. I'll be with Jesus.

This is a disaster for the human race and I’ve really lost patience with the useless morons who can’t see that. An AI video chat that passes for human has no necessary legitimate applications. It will be used to scam old people out of their life savings. Lonely, mentally vulnerable people are going to form romantic attachments to people who aren’t real. Isolation will increase. Mental illness will skyrocket even more than it already has. Kids in grade school will have AI boyfriends and girlfriends. All of this will happen. And worse things we can’t even conceive at this point. People are already forming unhealthy emotional attachments to text-based LLMs. Once there’s an audio and visual component, it’s over. Millions of brains will be broken irreparably. The benefits of this technology, whatever they are exactly, are so vastly outweighed by the societal catastrophe it will cause, and is already causing, that you can’t even measure the two categories on the same scale. But at least this is the best thing that ever happened to third world scammers. So if you’re in that community, congratulations.

Introducing Griffin, the first model to pass the video Turing test. 48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video. It’s the first Human Interaction Model (HIM).

@ClownWorld Nobody talks about Christa’s family. The whole thing is revolting. They can’t kill her and they take her to the hospital to revive her so they can try to kill her again. Just macabre.

The Minneapolis police have released footage of the officer involved shooting earlier this month when officers responded to a "mass shooting" in an apartment complex that left 2 dead and 6 wounded. Carlton Johnson II reportedly shot multiple people after being told he was being evicted. Police then responded and, as Mr. Johnson rounded a corner and oriented his handgun at them, performed an impromptu 5.56 ballistics test on his torso with their HUXWRX suppressor equipped short barrel AR15 rifles. The ballistic test was successful and Mr. Johnson died from the injection of lead and copper at ~2,500 FPS, saving taxpayers millions of dollars. @MorbidKnowledge I have so many questions....and I don't want the answers to any of them.

Wyoming hanged Tom Horn in 1903 on a machine specifically designed so that no human being would have to feel responsible for killing him. Which, given what Tom Horn did for a living, is about as tidy as history ever gets. He was born in Missouri in 1860 and left home at sixteen. He ended up in Arizona working for the Army as a packer, scout and interpreter under the chief of scouts Al Sieber during the Apache campaigns, and he was with the column that brought Geronimo in. He also won a steer roping championship out there. Years later he wrote an autobiography that inflated most of it considerably, which was standard for the genre. In the early 1890s he worked for the Pinkerton agency out of Denver, running down train robbers. He was extremely good at the tracking part. He was reportedly much less interested in the part where you bring a man in alive. Then he went north to Wyoming and hired on with the big cattle outfits as a stock detective. The job title was a formality. What the cattlemen were paying for was for suspected rustlers to stop existing, and Horn delivered that with a rifle, at long range, frequently from a couple hundred yards, with nobody around to see it. Historians credit him with the 1900 killings of Matt Rash and Isom Dart in Brown's Park and suspect him in several others. The line most often attributed to him is, "Killing men is my specialty. I look on it as a business proposition, and I think I have a corner on the market." Whether he actually said it is argued about. It was his reputation regardless, and he did nothing to discourage it. Then on July 18, 1901, a 14 year old boy named Willie Nickell was shot dead by a gate at Iron Mountain. Willie was big for his age, and he was wearing his father's coat and hat. His father, Kels Nickell, was running sheep in cattle country and was in a poisonous feud with his neighbors. Nearly everyone who has looked at it since has reached the same conclusion, which is that whoever fired thought he was shooting the father. Six months later, a deputy US marshal named Joe LeFors got Horn into an office in Cheyenne to talk about a job in Montana. He got Horn drinking. He flattered him, and let him brag, and kept nudging. Behind a door left open a crack in the next room sat a deputy and a court stenographer named Charles Ohnhaus, writing down every word. Somewhere in that transcript is the sentence, "It was the best shot that I ever made and the dirtiest trick I ever done." That was the case. Everything else the prosecution had was circumstantial. He was tried in an election year, in a state that had finally had enough of cattle barons buying outcomes, and the jury convicted him. Here is the complicated part. Most historians who have gone back through the evidence now believe Tom Horn probably did not kill Willie Nickell. There were other suspects with better motive and better opportunity. The physical case was weak, and the confession was a drunk man performing for a lawman who was steering the conversation. He had certainly killed people. He was very likely hanged for the wrong one. He got out of the jail in August 1903 with a pistol taken off a guard, and then could not figure out how the pistol worked. A man on the street who happened to know that model took him back into custody. So on November 20, 1903, one day short of his 43rd birthday, they walked him out to the gallows in Cheyenne. That gallows had been built by a local architect named James Julian. Julian had come through the Civil War, and he had thought a long time about what it does to a man to be the one personally responsible for killing another. So he engineered the person out of it. The condemned man stood on the trapdoor. His own weight tipped a lever that opened a valve on a water tank. The water ran out of the tank into a pan below, and as it drained the balance shifted, and when enough had run the mechanism pulled the bolt and the floor opened. Nobody pulled a lever. Nobody gave a signal. The man walked onto the platform, started the clock with his own body, and then stood there listening to water run. For Tom Horn it took about 35 seconds. A newspaper of the day described the machine as a device that simply compelled the condemned to commit suicide. Tom Horn had spent his career being the instrument that wealthy men used so that they would never have to be the ones who pulled the trigger. Wyoming killed him with a machine built on exactly the same idea.

@NetflixUK This post will become social media history. When your subscription service fails, this post will come back in millions of views to mock you. Bless you Charlie. I am sorry these people are so cruel.

@NetflixUK One year since Charlie Kirk was assassinated, and this is what Netflix chooses to post. Absolutely shameless.

One of the 9/11 hijackers was listed in the San Diego phone book. Under his real name. And that is the least damning fact in this story. January 5, 2000. Al-Qaeda holds a planning summit in Kuala Lumpur. The CIA knows about it, watches it, and photographs the men walking in. Two of them are Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar. The agency has a photocopy of Mihdhar's passport. Stamped inside is a valid multiple-entry visa for the United States. That same morning, an FBI agent detailed to the CIA's bin Laden unit named Doug Miller drafts a cable to FBI headquarters saying exactly that. A CIA supervisor tells him to put it on hold. A week later Miller follows up in writing: "Is this a no go or should I remake it in some way." He never gets an answer. The cable sits in draft until after the towers fall. The Justice Department's inspector general later went looking for someone who could explain why. Nobody could. January 15, 2000. Hazmi and Mihdhar fly United into Los Angeles. In March, CIA officers in Bangkok confirm in a cable that Hazmi boarded that flight to LA. The FBI is still not told. By February they are in San Diego, and they make no effort to hide. Real names on the apartment. Real names on the California driver's licenses, the bank accounts, the credit cards, the used car. They buy phone service and let the company print Hazmi in the local directory. In May they rent a room from a man they met at their mosque. He is an active FBI informant. His handler never learns who is sleeping down the hall. They try flight school that spring and wash out. Their English is too poor to follow the instructor. So the plot brings in a pilot. Hani Hanjour arrives in December 2000. In January and February 2001 his flight school in Phoenix calls the FAA three separate times because something is wrong with him. The manager, Peggy Chevrette, put it plainly: "I couldn't believe he had a commercial license of any kind with the skills that he had." An FAA inspector comes out, verifies the license is genuine, and closes it. Eight months later Hanjour flies American 77 into the Pentagon. July 4, 2001. Mihdhar walks back into the country at JFK. Nobody stops him, because nobody ever put him on a list. July 10. An FBI agent in Phoenix writes a memo warning that bin Laden may be sending men to American flight schools. It dies in the building. August 6. The President's Daily Brief carries the title "Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US." August 16. Zacarias Moussaoui is arrested in Minnesota. Agents there beg headquarters for a warrant to open his laptop and are refused. August 23. The CIA finally watchlists Hazmi and Mihdhar. Nineteen days left. August 27. A headquarters agent accuses the Minneapolis supervisor of writing his request to get people "spun up." The supervisor answers that yes, he was trying to keep someone from taking a plane and crashing it into the World Trade Center. Headquarters tells him that is not going to happen. Days later, Steve Bongardt, the New York agent running the USS Cole investigation, is told he cannot join the hunt for Mihdhar because his case is criminal and the lead is intelligence. He writes back: someday someone will die, and wall or not, the public will not understand why we were not more effective. The hunt for Mihdhar goes to a new agent on his first counterterrorism case, filed at routine precedence, which gave the office thirty days to respond. He is still checking New York hotel records on the morning of the eleventh. And that morning the system touched them one last time. At Dulles, the screening software flagged Hanjour, Mihdhar, and Moqed. A ticket agent pulled both Hazmi brothers aside because one had no photo ID and could not understand English. The only consequence of being flagged in 2001 was that your checked bag was held until you boarded the plane. They boarded. The bags went with them. Here is the part people get wrong. The Commission found no plot to let it happen, and I have seen nothing that changes that. What it found was worse in a way, because it is so ordinary. A wall between two agencies. A cable left in draft. A lead marked routine. A hundred people each doing the narrow job in front of them, correctly, and nobody holding the whole picture. We know it could be done, because it had been done. In December 1999 a customs inspector in Port Angeles named Diana Dean thought a man coming off the ferry looked nervous. She asked him a few more questions. The trunk was full of explosives meant for LAX. That is the whole answer. Stopping it never required a secret nobody had. It required one person with the standing to be believed.
