We've all walked past them. The empty shop that's been boarded up for years. The old cinema gathering dust. The building everyone says, "someone should do something about that." Well, that's exactly what I'm doing. We're investing £210 million to help bring neglected high street buildings back into use - turning empty spaces into community hubs, health centres, shared workspaces, cafés and the local services that people actually want to see. The funding will also help communities save spaces like pubs and sports clubs and support co-operatives so local people can share directly in their area's success. People don't measure growth by looking at a spreadsheet. They measure it by looking at their local high street. That's how we restore pride and bring hope back. Not by telling people things are getting better, but by giving them the power to see and feel the difference where they live.

ARE WE NOT ASHAMED? DO WE NOT CARE? I am deeply saddened by the disaster in Chivhu. Last week, Kariba. Then the government-backed demolition of homes and buildings belonging to innocent citizens. Almost every week, Zimbabweans are confronted by preventable tragedy and suffering. These are not statistics. These are our people. Our families. Our citizens. To those at the political helm: Does this not concern you? Where is the urgency?
Where is the accountability?
Where is the leadership?
Where is the compassion for We, the Citizens? We cannot normalise suffering. We cannot look away. Zimbabwe deserves leadership that puts the lives, dignity and welfare of its citizens first. WE, THE CITIZENS, MUST GOVERN!

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT… Dear @daddyhope I am making this response out of turn with my usual approach not to engage individuals personally. I last spoke to you in 2022, soon after the death of Dr. Alex Magaisa. We stopped talking after there had been a leaked audio in which you and the unidentified intelligence operative, were gratuitously attacking me without basis or reason and through lies, when you had direct and full access to me. I therefore saw no reason in continuing to trust you. Since then you have been on a hateful smear campaign, devoting your time to paint me a monster and less than wise. Your post earlier follows a series of other like-sounding character assignations and malicious attacks. A line has been consistently crossed, whereby all manner of false narratives have been manufactured to damage and harm my standing , even where the verifiable truth suggests and informs otherwise. I make the following submissions, on the various wild assertions, with the sole intent of putting to bed these sideshows, distractions, and allow us to focus our attention on citizens’ struggles where it is needed most. My focus is on fighting for freedom, transformation, a Citizens Republic and a Citizens government in our life. The following are falsehoods that have been peddled and the lies conceived or concocted by haters. 1. I am a champion of structured and organized grassroots movement outfits having successfully founded and formed MDC, MDC ALLIANCE and CCC. It is simply not true that I am averse to structured politics. My record within the democratic movement says it all. I am part of a proud history of forming strong movements which have defeated dictatorship to the point of them now attempting to ban elections. Which other movements on the continent have been as strong electorally, as MDC, MDC-A and CCC? Check my involvement in all three? I am fully aware of how you achieve results. A movement is not just a name. A movement is an idea, a strategy, a structure, it’s about collective leadership, its team effort, its energizing the base, it’s an organized approach, but above all, an ability to evolve and survive, uncompromised. You do not organize effectively as we did, and win elections successively as we did, without a plan, method, a structure, and a strategy. If it were that easy and straightforward, everyone would be able to do it. 2. I’m a proud team player. It is NOT TRUE that the CCC was a “one man band.” CCC is in the local government, National Assembly and Senate. So how does CCC become a “one-man band” when it is represented across these arms of government and state, yet the ‘one man’, yours truly, is not not even part of the band? It’s just outright malice! You say I made myself President and deliberately built CCC around myself. That is false and malicious. CCC organically emerged from broad consultations we made across the length and breadth of Zimbabwe, prior to its formation. The citizens i consulted nationwide gave a mandate to spearhead the then new baby as a response to the hijacking of the MDC Alliance upon ED machinations. We went out into the countryside with three questions: i. What do we do with the fact that the court has taken away the party name, and the party from us? ii. Do we continue to participate in disputed elections without reforms ? iii. How do we select candidates, Presidential, MPs and Councillors? The responses from the citizens informed how we behaved thereafter, and up to this day. How does a “one man band” attract over 2 million votes and be able to organize and support candidates in different communities all over Zimbabwe? As a matter of verifiable fact, the CCC had organs such as the Citizens National Assembly, which met and made binding decisions which I was also bound to, even in instances where I was of a different political or strategic view. The CNA brought together cluster leaders represented different districts. We also had committees, as well as Bureau

Kariba Disaster | Pope Leo grieves for victims VATICAN – Pope Leo mourns the victims of a ferry disaster in Zimbabwe, praying for those who died, as well as for civil authorities, rescue workers and all those affected by the tragedy. Pope Leo says he was “deeply saddened” to learn of the ferry accident on Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe, which claimed the lives of more than 80 people, including numerous children. In a telegram signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and sent today, 18 August, the Holy Father sent his “heartfelt condolences” to those mourning the loss of loved ones, assuring them that he is entrusting the souls of those who died “to the loving mercy of Almighty God.” The accident occurred last Tuesday, August 11, when the boat, which appears to have been overloaded with passengers, capsized while crossing from Kariba Town to the Chalala fishing camp. Zimbabwean police this morning said the recovery of eight more bodies today brought the confirmed death toll to 80, including 18 children. The Pope also offered his prayers for the civil authorities and emergency personnel involved in the rescue efforts. “Upon all those affected,” the text read, Pope Leo “invokes the divine blessings of consolation, healing and strength.” Meanwhile, investigations are continuing to establish the exact circumstances of the disaster. ##PauseForThought #AirZimbabwe | London ✈️ Harare Direct.@FlyAirZimbabwe @MinistryofTID I've seen all the skepticism surrounding the resumption of direct London–Harare–London flights, and I'd like to make my position crystal clear. I wholeheartedly welcome this move. Yes, I'm reading reports that the aircraft is around 20 years old and doesn't have in-flight entertainment. Fair enough. Meanwhile, many of us here in the UK have spent years asking for a direct connection. For me, the convenience of boarding one aircraft in London and waking up in Harare far outweighs the absence of a screen showing some spaghetti movie. Many friends in my circle are already booking their Christmas flights. That alone tells you there has been a genuine demand for this route. It's a complete no-brainer for me. Dinner in London… sleep… then wake up in Zimbabwe ready for a proper village breakfast of dassa and fiyo . What's not to like? By the time the skeptics are checking in for their connecting flights somewhere in the Middle East or East Africa, I'll already be on the ground in Harare, belly full,after a quick power nap and mentally preparing for the festive jollifications. 😆 One thing I will say, though… I'm not particularly chuffed seeing the Spanish flag on the winglets. Nothing against Spain or Plus Ultra, but if Zimbabwe is leasing and paying for the aircraft, the optics don't look lakker.. The aircraft should look unmistakably Zimbabwean. I'd love to see the winglets and tail proudly carrying our national flag. Hopefully Air Zimbabwe and Plus Ultra can have that conversation. As for me… I can't wait to be on one of those flights early next year. I'll settle into my usual Mbombela Class, enjoy what I already suspect to be warm beers 😆 after dinner, recline the seat, sleep like a baby and wake up on touchdown at RG Mugabe International Airport. #ZIMBABWE amends its Constitution in controversial circumstances. Today is a historically significant day in Zimbabwe as a constitution that was voted by over 94% of people voting in a referendum in 2013 is amended by Parliament and the President without a referendum. This issue will remain a sticky issue for a long time to come in Zimbabwe given historical, constitutional and political considerations. Historically, the liberation struggle was anchored primarily on the concept of one man (person), one vote. Thousands and thousands of people died for Zimbabwe to achieve this right. It has now just been wiped away for the election of the President. Just like that. Constitutionally, section 67 which is part of the bill of rights provides that every Zimbabwean citizen has a right to free, fair, and regular elections for any elective public office established in terms of the Constitution. This right to vote for a President as an elective public office has been taken away without a referendum as required by the constitution/law. Is this permissible legally? The answer to this question may lie with the Constitutional Court. Politically the constitution was made by the people of Zimbabwe starting with “We the people of Zimbabwe”. This raises the question of sovereignty and legitimacy arising from the authority of the people. There will be strong arguments whether Parliament and the President as delegated authority from “We the people of Zimbabwe” can have authority to change the fundamental constitutional design without the express authority of the people in a referendum. This conduct could be seen as political overreach by people who are in conflict of interest (Parliament and President) as they are all beneficiaries of the amendments without subjecting the process to the consent of the sovereign, “we the people”. Certainly there is a likelihood of conflictual outcomes arising from the fact that there are no easy answers to these and much more questions that many Zimbabweans are asking themselves. EFF statement on the extension of Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa's term of office —The EFF believes that the people of Zimbabwe cannot be held hostage indefinitely by a governing party. True revolutionaries understand that political power belongs to the people and that leadership is exercised on their behalf, not over them. Any government that fears returning to the people for a fresh democratic mandate is one that is certain it has lost the will of the people and should face the consequences or commit to better leadership.
