@benorlin Fair: there's a difference between "this is hard but I know why I need it" and "that is hard, and I don't see why I need it".
Related: the true transferable skill you get from learning Physics (at Uni) is not Physics per se, but the mental framework you gain by banging your head against hard Physics. If you never bang your head, you never get the framework, and you get no transferable skill.

@benorlin I led a student-centric classroom, when there was pushback it was often of the form "just tell me/them what to do" This got to the heart of that complaint: Why do you want me to tell you? What good comes of that? They didnt always agree, but it helped them understand my approach
@benorlin To me, this leans into the question that guided a lot of conversations I had with families, "what is my role as your teacher?" Is it to a) be the transmitter of information? ("easier") Or b) be a facilitator of learning? ("Harder")
@benorlin Of course, there's always the smart-arse (probably me) who'll ask how you know it looks like a line, and not something crinkly, when you zoom in 😈 (tbf, that goes equally for trying to think about the tangent.)
