My brother’s friend took a ₦15M loan to rent a 2-bedroom apartment in Abuja. My brother asked why he didn’t just move to a cheaper apartment. I love my mom, but I don’t want to be like her I love my dad, but I don’t want to marry a man like him I loved my childhood, but I don’t want my kids to experience a childhood like mine For the longest time, I thought admitting this would make me look like an ungrateful daughter but I’ve come to realise that loving the people who raised you and wanting a different life from theirs can exist at the same time You can love your parents and still choose to break certain cycles. You can be grateful for where you came from and still want something different for yourself and your children
