Depends on where 'usual' started. Loved them all immensely (sporting event of the year) pre about 1990. My enjoyment has been on a downward slope every year since then. Today's race was fun in the way the X-Country is. But the Antis have already won. The 'National' is no more.
For regular watchers of the Grand National, did you enjoy this year's race
This is spot on. It may not be the race we all remember, but it’s still a special occasion when we can share the sport we love with the nation. In terms of quality and competitiveness this was one of the best in recent memory, so it acted as a perfect showpiece for horse racing.
That didn't ride anything like a Grand National of old (or even a Grand National of relatively new), but the reality is that this kind of race is exactly what the sport needs in its shop window if it wants to be around in the years to come.

Please can we dispel the myth right away that this fall in betting turnover on racing has anything to do with affordability checks. Restrictions, perhaps, cost of living, almost certainly, but the biggest factors are the poor quality of the racing product and small field sizes.
