NASA has released one of the most detailed visualizations ever created of Earth’s ocean currents. Using data from satellites and advanced ocean models, the map reveals massive rivers of moving water, swirling eddies hundreds of miles wide, and the powerful Gulf Stream carrying warm water from the Gulf of Mexico across the Atlantic.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, a group of Americans signed their names to a piece of parchment and made a promise no nation had ever made before: that we're all created equal, endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights — life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We're the only nation in history built not on ethnicity, or blood, or geography but on an idea. That's always been what makes us exceptional. We chose that path 250 years ago but that’s where the work began, not where it ended. Every generation has had to choose it again. At Valley Forge, at Gettysburg, on the beaches of Normandy, in the streets of Selma. Americans recommitted themselves to the principles on which our nation was founded. Now it's our turn. There's nothing guaranteed about our democracy. We have to fight for it, defend it, and earn it. Over and over, year after year. That's not a burden. That's what it means to be an American. 250 years in, we still haven't fully lived up to those words in the Declaration. But we've never walked away from them, and this July 4, I hope all of us can commit to one thing: that we never will. I don't believe we're as divided as we're told we are. I've bet my whole life on the American people, and I'm not stopping now. Happy 250th birthday, America. Our story isn't finished. Let's keep writing it together.

30,000 hours of footage, equivalent to 3 years and 7 months, were filmed to capture the blooming of 77 types of flowers, and the result is spectacular.

We welcome a cold front. But our erratic #Stlwx hasn’t seen the last of another heat wave. And old brick homes bake even with temps being in the 80s with no trees around. @SalArmySTL is one of our many partners, coolin’ it down. We need more new A/Cs at CoolDownStlouis.Org.

More for reading later.

Snow storms in Lawrence: A thread. 1. If you're leaving your house because you have to work, just be careful. If you're leaving your house for a mango rhubarb slushee, first of all, gross, second of all, you don't need it.

My translation of a pre-Islamic Arabic preserved in Abū Tammām's Ḥamāsah, the lament of a women for a fallen kinsman (possibly a kinsman who had been exiled). Roaming the land, he sought　safety from death, and died. I only wish I knew　what wrong killed you and why. Did you die sick, untended? Or waylayed in the night? Or was your stroke of chance　what killed the desert shrike? Wherever a lad may roam　the Fates in ambush lie. Everything that you won　came at the hardest price. All things are murderous　the day your time arrives. What good that young men have　did you lack in your life? Disaster deafens you　to questions I now cry. I'll steel myself, for you　will never again reply. I wish my heart could face　your death a moment's time. I wish the Fates had spared　your life instead of mine. The poem's antiquity is suggested by the fact that its particular meter falls outside the Khalīlian system and may actually be unique in the Jāhilī corpus. Abū Tammām's attribution to the mother of Ta'abbata Sharra need not be taken seriously

One day I hope you find happiness, and also an ancient locket glittering against soft moss that seems to call to you. I hope you place it on your neck and feel a terrible power rise up. I hope you overtake your enemies with the thorned vines you now control, I hope—

instead of having a credit score everyone should be assigned a library card at birth, and the card is good for libraries all over the nation and there are prizes for having read a certain number of books.

Another reason for the church to advocate for LGBTQ people: not only to show them "respect, compassion and sensitivity," as the Catechism asks, but also to protect their lives. In many places, LGBTQ issues are a matter of life and death. bbc.com/news/world-eur…

Another russian missile strike on the city of Zaporizhzhia. 17 civilians were killed. If #UAarmy had modern Western anti-missile systems, we could have prevented such tragedies.
