@gummibear737 Too be fair in Australia we thought plastic bags were going to destroy the world so we banned them. Nobody does hysterical like Australia!
@_davidlimbrick@LibDemAus "How much time must pass before we must regard Australia as illiberal and unfree?" I'd say we are well and truly beyond that point.
@gummibear737 It saddens me that this seems to be a theme across western societies. Australia was always refereed to as the 'lucky country', now it is rapidly becoming the opposite.
@gummibear737 Sadly all of our state and territory leaders have opted into authoritarianism with little to no push back from the opposition parties. The minor parties have either bought in to it or have little clout. I don't see a way out unless a huge shift in perspective, which is unlikely.
@MichaelPSenger@HelenTeaPot Here's one more insane policy to add to your list. Yesterday, the state I live in let the police rewrite the public health policy.🤷♂️ Based on science no doubt.
@gummibear737@oscarstolemycan Australia is a basket base. Only yesterday my state allowed the police to rewrite public health orders even against the wishes of the CHO.
I am interested in information about this pre-existing immunity.
Vladimir Putin is an authoritarian leader who jails and assassinates political opponents
Yet he's remarkably popular after 20+ years in power
How? By controlling the media and institutions and shutting down dissenting voices/opinions
Why is the left mirroring this strategy?
@thetopjob @Adam_Creighton Sweden's all cause morality for 2020 was nothing remarkable compared to their 10 year average. Without locking down (though they did admit they could have done more to protect the vulnerable) they’ve had less deaths than countries that did (with some locking down multiple times)
@Adam_Creighton This special Roy Morgan Snap SMS survey was conducted with an Australia-wide cross-section of 1,243 Australians aged 18+ on Thursday January 14 – Friday January 15, 2021.
1243 participants through a SMS survey. Make up your own mind but, I'll take this one with a grain of salt.
@sabhlok Sanjeev, have you read much of the work of Solzhenitsyn and in particular his commencement speech at Harvard in 78? Much of what you’re posting (in regards to the west) echoes that speech. Well worth a read.
