/ Note Wilson's reply to Tucker. Wilson doesn't respond with a theological defense for his views that Moore and French stand against. Nor does he point out his own personal issues, as many do when discussing Doug, like his pro-slavery views, his racism, or abuse positions.
/ No, Wilson simply says "Here's the, this is the, I think the distinction, I MEAN IT." To him, the reason to do what he does and the justification for all that he does is that HE MEANS IT ... but no one else does. True belief, to Doug, is solipsistic and narcissistic.
/ It demonstrates in a way that everyone can easily grasp, why so many of Doug's doctrinal positions are bent and why he chases power. Simply put, if he believes he's right, he is. That belief makes him better, holier, more correct than all others.
/ One wonders if Doug knows his personality and heretical mission is just another rehashed version of the narcissistic prosperity Gospel, which was a rehash of New Man doctrine, which was a rehash of New Thought theory, which was just amped up Mesmerism.
/ From a theological and historical pov it's a bit hilarious. What is certain is that his marks do not know it. We can take Doug's three words "I mean it" and trace them directly back almost 200 years. I don't say that capriciously. I teach on this exact doctrinal history.
/ There is a direct line from modern Wof/Neo-Charis/Pente/Prosperity doctrine to New Thought. That ideological/doctrinal line and the doctrinal DNA from those movements which carried it in modern history is EVERYWHERE. The cross-pollination has been massive.
/ There is no way to overstate how the movements largely responsible for it's spread from the mid 1940s forward have cross-pollinated across EVERY denom or trad in the world. That same fact was even a major driver in the attempted coup of January 6th. But that's another thread.
/ One of the reason Doug (and Tucker) do so well with their audiemce is they intentionally choose marks who are low-information, if not lacking in outright critical thinking skills. They ply them with promises of something better that mask ill intent.
/ Yes, that's harsh. But there is no other way to describe people who willingly stand with a minister who writes pro-slavery apologia and says minors under his care are to blame for their own sexual abuse. No one sane or capable of rational thought follows such people.
/ Well, except the compromised who see them as vehicles to fulfill their own desires. But, again, that's an entirely different discussion. Regardless, that simple exchange should remind us that we have to properly educate people.
/ People trained and steeped in good theology with a Christ-centered focus (not power, nor societal control) ... will recognize the counterfeit that Wilson offers immediately, and call it what it is. Let us train people so they can drink living water, not Doug's sand. /ENDS
@bonhoefferchild Before we knew about him, we did a few years of his classical Christian curriculum through Veritas Press. I was struck by how dead and legalistic his version of Christian teaching was- not life giving at all, just heavy, Calvinistic, ultra right, Christian world view hog wash.
