Negotiations take time. Finding common ground to solve global problems can be difficult. But what should we do if nature doesn't wait? The urgency of #climatecrisis demands shift action. @billmckibben reflects on what we can do together: bit.ly/BBSBILL (@ThirdActOrg)
Brief but not spectacular. Climate change is not a “political problem”. Politics is the problem. Bill said Exon “degraded our democracy.” Democracy was born degraded. It was given birth and is sustained by divisions in society that preclude the unity we need to survive. Democracy doesn’t create the divisions. They are a people problem that will prevent the percentage of the 70% who agree climate change is our problem from coming together in a ”third act” to solve our problem, if it is not too late. Besides, we need 100%. Our problem is having a collective realized mental capacity that hasn’t increased since ‘Eve’ asked, “Why am I?”, the question of meaning that gave birth to humanity 200k years ago. Even the writers of the Old Testament said God warned ‘Eve‘ not to eat the ‘apple’. They knew there’s no answer. ’Eve’ blamed the ‘snake’. Fearing the unknown our ‘parents’ made up an answer with which they tried to fill the void and their ‘children’ have been trying to fill the void ever since. We are living in a barrel of rotten apples. We have our own snakes to blame. We can solve at least our problem of being unable to come together to try arresting climate change simply by realizing the mental capacity to accept there is no answer to the question of meaning. We can then quit the unnatural activity of trying to fill the void, empty it of the ways we’ve been trying to fill it and allow our innate, self-creative natural activity to re-emerge like green shoots after wildfire. thelastwhy.ca/prose-450-word…
@briefbutspectac @billmckibben @ThirdActOrg And Nature, like Time, will wait for no one.
@briefbutspectac @billmckibben @ThirdActOrg If climate change turns out to have an overall negative affect on global life (extremely unlikely). Then we can reverse it. It's more likely to continue greening.
@briefbutspectac @billmckibben @ThirdActOrg Umm...polar bear populations are increasing, as is the Great Barrier Reef. Oh...and the Maldives, and Arctic Sea Ice, are still there all year long! Does this news offend the climate alarmists? Yes, because it is GOOD news.
