We have already had a microcosm of this phenomenon in electronics/computers/software, where the pace of innovation exceeded the pace of money printing, reducing prices and creating enormous benefits for everyone.
3: Saving and investment is rewarded versus consumption, which further fuels investment in the future and improved productivity.
2: Real quality of living increases for all—as the purchasing power of savings increases for all.
1: Real interest rates will naturally be low—maybe even negative—which enables plentiful growth capital (which fuels production which fuels more deflation)
Unpopular opinion: Deflation is actually the natural and healthy state of an economy: Productivity increases over time, so supply of goods increases relative to constant money supply, and prices naturally drop. This has several obvious benefits:
Fixing inflation should be simple (albeit politically difficult)—this is just supply of money vs supply of goods: - Don’t increase money supply (balance budget, stop printing $, start paying down debt) - Increase production, reduce costs (enact policies that eliminate red tape)
I so want someone to build this. And a bunch of other things we brainstormed at Groupon but never shipped—like tying reservations to card on file, so you can dine and just walk out, with payment handled automatically Uber style.

I pitched this internally @Groupon years ago: pay extra for last-minute access to the best places. Could have taken the Groupon brand out of the dungeon. Alas, execution trumps ideas, and we never did it @Groupon. I hope someone else ships this!

I’ve always valued independent thinking (I became an atheist in Pakistan, freedom of mind was v imp to me) and that’s probably what drew me to Silicon Valley. But shouldn’t be contrarian just for the sake of it. Funnily I am liberal by Pakistani standards and conservative by SF.
