@DrNormanBergrun @Rainmaker1973 There is no problem. The difference of Earth’s diameter at the equator and the poles is ~43 km. That is only about five times the height of Mount Everest, so also just a fraction of the diameter. No wonder it looks like a sphere in photos; it closely resembles one.

@DrNormanBergrun @Rainmaker1973 Of course perfect spheres and all other geometric shapes are just abstract concepts. There are no perfect spheres, cubes, planes, cylinders, or indeed oblate spheroids in the universe, because there is such a thing as a smallest building block: the atom.

@DrNormanBergrun @Rainmaker1973 NASA doesn’t show images of a sphere. They (and various others such as ESA) show images of Earth, which quite closely approximates a sphere, but even more closely approximates an oblate spheroid.

@Rainmaker1973 “Her body temperature at the time was 13.7 °C (56.7 °F), the lowest survived body temperature ever recorded in a human with accidental hypothermia, until 7-year-old Stella Berndtsson survived a 13.0 °C (55.4 °F) body temperature in 2010.”

@Rainmaker1973 This is also mentioned in the Wikipedia article of Anna Bågenholm (who by the way is also Swedish, not Norwegian. The accident happened in Norway though): en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Båge…

@aamodt_norge @Rainmaker1973 The center of the *observable* universe is the observer, and all observing humans are on the earth. I find it hard to make out if the earth or the sun is the center of that image, but they’re almost in the same position on this scale anyways.

@AvaFremont @olivercampbell It makes sense that they would sound more like the Scandinavian languages around the late 1800s, which I guess is what you mean by “purer”, given that they’ve been much more isolated. How common is it that people speak any of those languages where you live?
