In 1961, while in Europe for medical treatment, Elizabeth Taylor was introduced to an infant girl by the German actress Maria Schell. The baby was nine months old. She was lying in a laundry basket supported by two old pillows. She was severely malnourished. She had painful abscesses across her body. She had a deformed hip that doctors feared might prevent her from ever walking. She did not cry. She did not make sounds. She lay quietly and watched the room with dark, attentive eyes. Elizabeth Taylor picked her up and did not put her down for three days. She bathed the child. She held her. She cared for her continuously until the infant, slow to respond at first, began to make sounds and reach for her bottle. German adoption officials encouraged Taylor to select a different child — one without the health complications this baby carried. Taylor refused. She later described her position in documented interviews with characteristic directness: the officials wanted her to have a perfect baby, so she had to fight like a tiger to get this one. To her, this child was already perfect. The little girl was named Maria. When Taylor married Richard Burton, Burton legally adopted Maria as well, and she became Maria Burton. The process of healing her hip was long. Taylor took Maria across Germany, Italy, and France, consulting doctors who disagreed about the prognosis. For nearly two years, Maria was placed in a full-body cast as physicians attempted to determine whether she would ever be able to walk. Eventually, a surgeon in Oxford, England, recommended an operation to insert a metal plate into the hip. The surgery succeeded. Maria walked. Then she ran. Then she grew up alongside her siblings — Liza, Christopher, Michael, and Eddie — in one of the most scrutinized families in the world. Taylor has described the moment Maria spoke her first word in documented interviews, saying it was "Mama," and that when it happened she simply fell apart with joy. Richard Burton, a man who kept detailed private diaries throughout his adult life, recorded the texture of family life with Maria in entries from 1966. One evening over lamb stew, he sat down with five-year-old Maria and told her the story of her own life — where she had come from, how she had arrived, what the family had done to bring her home. He noted in his diary how deeply the child listened. Later that same year, he recorded another entry in which Maria told him she loved him and wanted always to be with him. Maria Burton grew up to become a model. She married and had two children of her own, whom she named Eliza and Richard — in honour of her parents. She is now a grandmother. She has worked with children's charities throughout her adult life. The infant who lay in a laundry basket in Germany in 1961, silent and watchful, grew into a woman who passes the same quality of attention to the next generation. Elizabeth Taylor was told to choose a different baby. She chose this one. And this one grew up. Share so the story of Elizabeth Taylor and Maria — one of the quietest and most determined acts of the actress's life — is remembered ♥️♥️

You can now read the Rape Gang Inquiry report on the link below. static1.squarespace.com/static/6810978… From Scotland to London, children were raped, trafficked, tortured, and murdered. Children as young as four years old were passed on and sold by their own mothers to men to be raped. Children endured decades of trafficking, filmed blackmail, "red rooms" of torture, animal rape, and witnessed murders of other girls. They were subjected to extreme violence including penetration by objects, strangulation, and backstreet abortions. Pure evil has been allowed to continue since as early as the 1950s. The majority of perpetrators were Muslim men, and the people paid to protect these children didn’t just turn a blind eye; some were directly involved in the abuse and rape. As we head into Stage 3 of the inquiry, we will be naming those individuals involved and pursuing private prosecutions. So far, the inquiry has held two weeks of hearings in London, initiated multiple criminal investigations, taken legal action against dozens of services, collected files and evidence, and continues to give survivors and families a platform. Some survivors are still being ignored and waiting for investigations to open. The NCA have still not responded to us and the interest of the NPCC is to safeguard the people we intend to name. I would like to thank MP Rupert Lowe for starting the inquiry, our team, all participants, the donors who made this possible, and, of course, the public for supporting us. Our work is far from over.

On January 1, 2026, the European wind industry implemented a self-imposed landfill ban on turbine blades. This has left many countries scrambling silently for solutions. Landfill has become the next unwanted crisis, yet it's the conversation no one wants to have. Germany, Finland, and the Netherlands have banned blade landfills, and so for a time they are being exported to countries like the UK or France, where they can still be buried. Banning waste like turbine blades doesn't make it vanish though—it just puts it on a truck to a neighbour's backyard. Low-scale solutions are often cited as the answer, like turning blades into noise barriers, bridges or playground equipment. How do you turn 43 million tons of blade waste from turbines into park benches and koala crossings? How many park benches does one planet actually need? Modern recycling for glass and carbon fibre often requires pyrolysis (high-heat chemical decomposition). To recycle a 'green' blade, you must burn an immense amount of energy to break down the resins. We are trading a physical waste problem for a new energy demand problem. People love a quirky solution that highlights the absurdity of the problem—like the image of a massive 80-metre blade being used as a single, very long bus shelter. Even 'green' solutions have a physical footprint that can't be wished away by a spreadsheet.

An elderly Coptic Christian man is forced off a train in Egypt because Muslim passengers don’t want to be around Christians. They push him out and call him a dirty infidel. This is how Muslims treat non-Muslims in their countries. Then they move to the West and complain about “Islamophobia.”

What Trump and Vance did in the White House Oval Office today to Zelensky is being universally condemned as the most disgusting and shameful behavior of an American President and VP in U.S. history. The entire democratic free world is collectively appalled and outraged. 😳👇
