An Ohio police lieutenant was just indicted on felony charges for using Flock cameras to track someone he knew for personal reasons. for 16 months. I talked about this pattern in August, the numbers then: — 18 documented officers caught using Flock data to stalk women — one ran his ex-girlfriend's plate 69 times in a summer — one tracked his estranged wife 164 times over four months — one searched for a woman he'd just met at a filming location. she said no. he had a database. now Ohio. a lieutenant. 16 months. Flock has 120,000 cameras. 5,000+ law enforcement agencies, the FBI just tried to spend $36 million to get nationwide access to the whole network. Flock says it has internal safeguards. in almost none of the 18 documented cases did those safeguards catch anything. the victims found out from a civilian website called HaveIBeenFlocked.com that scraped public audit logs. Flock has repeatedly tried to get that website taken down.

Two Harvard students in 2024 demonstrated that you can combine Meta glasses with a facial recognition search engine and identify a stranger's name, home address, phone number, and employer in real time. just by looking at them, using commercially available glasses and free tools. they tested it on strangers who consented afterward every identification was accurate. a recording signal can tell you the camera is on. it doesn't tell you what the AI is doing with what it sees.
