1/2) I'm tired of people suggesting democracy & human rights to be mixed with the US Indo-pacific defence objectives in #QUAD. Haven't we learnt from #PivottoAsia? Leave defence to #quietdiplomacy away from other FP objectives where #Chinesecooperation is necessary.

@jagowriter 2/2) We’ve learnt that lesson in Obama’s Pivot to Asia policy and why it failed. Myanmar’s problems cannot go w/o the Chinese coorperating. & they won’t if it’s part of a policy that is supposed to contain them. Best if Biden’s Asia policies are not repetitions of Obama policies.

@jagowriter 1/2) It’s a wise thing that they don’t. Mixing defence priorities w/ democracy and peacebuilding especially when it is a matter requiring China’s cooperation is NOT a good idea.

3/3) ☝🏻Precisely why #justice is essential in any int’l action taken towards Myanmar & the perpetrators. You do not “reconcile” with this sort of institutional behaviour. Unfortunately Myanmar’s legal system has never been strong enough to bring this justice even prior the coup.
