Some adaptation is actually OK. Less so in public settings, obviously. But in residential where we spend a lot of time, mainstream marketable UD homes have to be high function, but can't be built with the custom accessibility features that can be easily added later.

We are not surprised at this statistic. Much cheaper to design/build new or to add UD to an already planned renovation.

I have said that it's hard to make townhome style homes (small, narrow footprint, multiple stories) work for life long living. These folks have added stacked closets and step-free entrances and interior features that can work for a wide range of folks! ow.ly/152830ngoDS

We need buildings with features for people who are blind, deaf, low vision, people hard of hearing, bad backs, arthritis, balance, strength, and stamina issues too. We need to infuse all buildings with these characteristics! ow.ly/w1Mp30nezQ4 #accessibility
