I think it's telling that some people can only envision Robotaxi as a commercial taxicab. Anyone who owns a Tesla can allow friends and family to use it. I certainly intend to use Robotaxi to maintain freedom of movement when I become too old to drive.
@carsonight Anyone wanting to send their Tesla out as a Robotaxi will think twice when their insurance company says NO or raises the premium drastically. Also the liability implications for the owner when passengers are hurt will be huge. Robotaxis are best managed by fleet companies.
People have trouble imagining an entirely new paradigm rather than a slight variation on the current one. When the iPhone was unveiled most people, myself included, didn't think of it as anything but a phone with a big screen. Cool, but not world changing. We didn't realize how the rest of the world would change in response to the new technology. In just a few years, whole industries were transformed and entirely new ones were created. The cell phone almost ceased to even be a phone. A new paradigm was born. The same will happen with robotaxis.
