I haven't used my academic Twitter/history twitter since the day before my MA thesis defense, but I have returned! In the fall I will be starting my PhD, focusing on colonialism in the American West. Hello everyone!

Working on thesis edits and I can't help but laugh at how often my advisor wants me to put in the word "indeed" in various places. Does "indeed" really strengthen sentences that much?

I love hearing stories about grad school unions overthrowing the system at these larger schools and I'm over here like...."we made hand turkeys in my department as a stress reliever and hung them on our door"

Making your application fee waiver forms impossible to find on your website, is elitist gatekeeping. I shouldn't have to sell my clothes to apply to PhD programs!

I mentioned during my prospectus defense how I keep running into other interesting documents in my research that I want to k now more about, but have nothing to do with my thesis. A committee member told me to keep a folder of those "rabbitholes" for the future that's genius!

I am White. I have studied racism for over 2 decades. I still can't claim to fully understand its impacts. If you are White, you have a lot to learn about racism, even if your spouse/children are non-White, even if you have read several books, even if your best friend is Black.
