If you come from Zambia, where about half of the population is living below the poverty line, you don't have to wonder why some of your family members ask you for help because you made it out. It can be frustrating and all, but you can understand why it happens. Africans had their lifestyle and majority of their culture mutilated. This isolated family style of living has never been an African thing, and that's why you see remnants of community still there. If you don't live in a bubble, you'll realise that most of our parents did what they could to help extended family because at some point, they themselves were beneficiaries of "black tax". Not everyone's grandparents had the opportunity to be on the good side of the colonialist. Zambia, for example, has only been independent for 60 years. Some of the wealth being enjoyed by families now is because of what the colonialists blessed them with. Not to encourage laziness, but sometimes it's not even laziness. One thing successful people may want to consider is that success is not just about hard work. It also has a lot to do with advantage. Some of the advantages are so tiny that you may not even realise it! For example, you can attend a job interview with a guy more hardworking than you, but has terrible experience with interpersonal skills and couldn't confidently respond in the job interview, you'll most likely get the gig. God knows how you got your good people skills, but that's an advantage right there. So people who don't turn out as great as you may not exactly be lazy. They may just lack advantage you gained either because something was deliberate or by association. Help people when you can. Help your family out of poverty if you can. Above all, with trends changing, find ways to give your children all the possible advantages you can.
