The Amazon is an important carbon sink as it absorbs 1/4 of the CO2 taken up by all forests in the world, annually. However, as the Amazon is deforested, dead trees start releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the rainforest instead becomes a source of CO2.#SOSAmazonia
