The most important lesson of a new report on indicators in inclusive prosperity in low-income neighborhoods is that low-income neighborhoods can reduce poverty without displacing local communities, @RoAcharya & @rhettmorris write. brook.gs/3QBouwP
On Sept 20, tune in to learn about the eight “indicators of inclusive prosperity” linked to decreasing poverty without displacing local communities and leading to #NeighborhoodProsperity. Register: brook.gs/3D5AMdU
While poor neighborhoods in the U.S. are diverse, they affect people from some groups more than others, @RoAcharya says. Close to 1 in 5 Black people live in neighborhoods w/ concentrated poverty, compared to one in 40 in the rest of the U.S. population. brook.gs/3QBouwP
Around one in 15 people in the United States lives in a neighborhood with concentrated poverty, @RoAcharya & @rhettmorris say. The number of neighborhoods with concentrated poverty has also grown significantly. brook.gs/3QBouwP
In 2000, around 4,800 U.S. neighborhoods had poverty levels of 30% or more. By 2019, that number was nearly 5,800 neighborhoods, or a 19% increase, @RoAcharya & @rhettmorris note in a new report. brook.gs/3QBouwP
