A huge utility merger is looming. Nextera wants to buy Dominion. In Florida, Nextera just pushed through its largest rate hike *in history.* Now it's looking at Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina

Energy bills continue to go up in Virginia. Yet somehow, we're expected to believe that an out-of-state megamonopoly with a bad history will be the solution?

NEW: Dominion Energy now projects Virginia power bills will jump from $180 to $258 a month by 2036. This comes as they are now lobbying to merge with NextEra.

🚨[VNV: GOVERNOR DEFLECTS FROM THE *REAL* ROOT CAUSES OF HIGH ELECTRICITY PRICES] 🚨WWBT: Governor, SCC weigh in on Dominion deal Gov. Abigail Spanberger and State Corporation Commission staff said the proposed merger between Dominion Energy and NextEra Energy should not proceed unless it meets the governor's conditions: WWBT’s Oliver Sabo reports:

ICYMI: SCC Staff, Gov. Spanberger, and AG Jay Jones are all saying NO to the Dominion-NextEra takeover. Virginians deserve reliable electricity and lower bills, not an out-of-state mega-monopoly that introduces extra financial risk. Our news roundup: communitiesforaffordablepower.com/icymi-scc-staf…

Dominion-NextEra merger hits turbulence, faces opposition from Va. leaders, SCC staff • Virginia Mercury virginiamercury.com/2026/10/20/dom…

Even the SCC staff thinks this merger is a bad idea. They agree with @SenWarren and me that the merger risks higher utility bills for Virginians, reduces competition, and creates the largest utility monopoly in the country. Dominion and NextEra have not made the case for how they would protect Virginians long term. vpm.org/news/2026-10-1…

This is textbook leadership from @SpanbergerForVA: asking tough questions, pointing out unassailable facts and demanding transparency from out of state companies trying to buy our power infrastructure, esp with a shady record. 👏👏👏

Thank you, AG Jay Jones, for meeting this moment. The proposed NextEra-Dominion takeover doesn't make life better for us here in Virginia. It only benefits the bottom line of Florida execs.

Right now, in Virginia we have some foundational issues with our energy system that we have to address: the grid is overworked, we need more energy to meet the demand that we have, and costs are too high for every single one of us.

Let's make sure all our leaders know that standing with Virginians is always the side you want to be on. 🤝

Yesterday the SCC staff and the Governor announced opposition to a Dominion Energy, NextEra merger. Now the Attorney General announces opposition. I guess it's safe time to jump on that bandwagon.

Ghazala Hashmi Welcomes SCC Staff Recommendation Against Dominion Energy Takeover Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi welcomed a recommendation by Virginia State Corporation Commission staff to deny NextEra Energy’s proposed $67 billion takeover of Dominion Energy, citing concerns about financial risks and insufficient protections for Virginia ratepayers. According to a statement from her office, Hashmi also expressed support for the concerns Governor Abigail Spanberger raised in a filing on the proposed transaction. Spanberger called on state regulators to reject the deal unless strict conditions are met. southasianherald.com/ghazala-hashmi… @GhazalaHashmi @DominionEnergy @nexteraenergy

Any proposed merger involving Virginia’s primary state-regulated utility must benefit families, small businesses, and Virginia’s workforce — not just the shareholders of these multi-billion-dollar corporations. As such, I am calling for a six-year rate freeze to Virginians’ base electricity rates, a tripling the monthly bill credits for ratepayers over four years, and additional commitments to lower energy costs and meet our long-term clean and homegrown energy goals if the State Corporation Commission is to approve this merger. wsls.com/news/local/202…

Everyone deserves affordable, reliable electricity. That's why we’re fighting to strengthen accountability and make sure people have a voice in the decisions that affect them. Lowering bills, providing reliable energy, and putting people first. communitiesforaffordablepower.com

When big decisions like mergers, new infrastructure, and new laws have the potential to affect electric bills for years, consumers deserve a seat at the table. How much will it cost? Who stands to profit? Who pays? Those questions need to come before the decision, not after.

The proposed $67B Dominion-NextEra acquisition is a dangerous Wall Street power grab. At a recent Norfolk listening tour, residents shared devastating realities of shut of notices & growing utliliy bills. We don't need an untouchable monopoly. #stopthemegamonopoly @the_cool_down_ thecooldown.com/green-business…
