Each time the subroutine is called, it's arguments for that call can be assigned to the corresponding parameters
An ordered list of parameters is usually included in the definition of a subroutine
The parameters of a procedure are used to refer to one of the pieces of data provided as input to the subroutine
Two types of subroutine are procedures and functions
When a subroutine is defined, it is given an identifier (a name) and some instructions
It's also called function, procedure, method or routine as it performs a specific task
A subroutine is a portion of code within a larger program
Care must be taken as beginnings/ends cannot overlap each other _ indenting instructions in constructs is a good way of ensuring this
They give programmers the flexibility to write complex and powerful algorithms
Nesting constructs are where there are loops within loops
Typically used when the number of iterations is known before entering the loop
FOR loops use a variable to determine whether instructions should be repeated.
Counter Controlled loops are often referred to as FOR loops
A similar situation will occur in a REPEAT UNTIL condition if it can never be true
They repeat endlessly when a condition in a WHILE loop can never be false.
Infinite loops can be caused by an error in the logic of an algorithm
By changing the the conditions and/or some of the data in the program, it is possible to convert a WHILE loop into a REPEAT UNTIL...
In both WHILE + REPEAT UNTIL loops, the loops repeats if the condition is TRUE and exits if the condition is FALSE
