also changed the wording: “game balance”, not litres of water “saved”. this is an estimate from usage logs, not a water meter. the uncertainty needs to stay visible. what would you change before wanting this on your desktop?
this is the current local build moving. the character drinks, the straw follows the remaining ocean, and decorative sips don’t change the usage totals. 90 tests pass locally, plus 400 water-contact checks. still an alpha, not an “it’s finished” post.
i said i’d post pictures “tomorrow”. that was two weeks ago 😅 i went quiet while reworking thirsty: the look, the drinking animation and the setup all changed. here’s the early mac build next to where it is now. actual screenshots, rough edges included.
the bit that took longest to get right: about 95% of my tokens are cache reads. for billing that's handled, the trackers price them properly. but i'm estimating energy, and a cache read barely touches the expensive part. i weighted them wrong at first. out by about 50x.
opened it this morning at 209% of the limit i'd set myself, which i wasn't really expecting. i'm still not sure the maths holds up, which is honestly most of why i want it on github with people poking at it. free, obviously.
my mate asked me over coffee how much water one AI question costs. i had nothing. couldn't even ballpark it. i've heard this mentioned plenty of times and it never landed. being asked to your face and having no answer is a different thing.
anyways i’m really tired now so i’m going to bed. i’ve been working on this tool all day, so tomorrow i’ll try to post some pictures of my progress and would love your feedback :)
