Day 20 of #100DaysOfCode: Baby steps of progress on Tug of Word. Added a new component consisting of the main action buttons for starting a game.
Day 19 of #100DaysOfCode: Completed @fireship_dev's short tutorial on @remotion_dev. Great tool... now I just need to think of a project to use it on! youtu.be/deg8bOoziaE
Day 18 of #100DaysOfCode: Read vitest documentation and tried to get my unit tests to play nice with typescript. I love TS when it works, but it can be so frustrating when it doesn't!
Day 17 of #100DaysOfCode: Shorter day of coding today, as I was feeling a little bit of burnout. Focused on writing integration tests with Cypress test runner. I love the design and built-in browser!
Day 16 of #100DaysOfCode: Set up environment for the newest version of my word game Tug of Word. Also created a header with a light/dark mode. Writing the tests tomorrow because I forgot to do them first... oops! I will eventually remember TDD :)
Day 15 of #100DaysOfCode: Spent more time reading documentation (vitest and cypress) than actual coding. The focus of today was on integrating TDD into my work flow. As someone who tends to jump head-first into a project, this is a big paradigm shift. Wish me luck!
Day 14 of #100DaysOfCode: Finished @freeCodeCamp's Nest.js tutorial This was my first in-depth exposure to e2e testing (pactumJS). It was cool to see how it functioned on the server. Now I'm interested in implementing it on the front end... Cypress, maybe?
Day 13 of #100DaysOfCode: Almost done with @freeCodeCamp's Nest.js tutorial. Today I learned about using JWT tokens for authentication, and set up several scripts in package.json to prepare a test environment for e2e testing with pactumJS.
Day 12 of #100DaysOfCode: More work on @freeCodeCamp's Nest.js tutorial. Main Takeaways: 1. @prisma is a joy to use, and 2. After using @Firebase for so long, I had forgotten how difficult managing an entire back end is. Oof!
Day 11 of #100DaysOfCode: Started the @freeCodeCamp tutorial on Nest.js! Excited to learn more about his framework :)
day 10 of #100DaysOfCode: Added jest unit testing to the front-end of my web game. Going to focus more on Test Driven Development in the next few days!
day 9 of #100DaysOfCode: added Express.js backend logic to my server to enable programmatic deletion of users through the @Firebase Admin SDK.
day 8 of #100DaysOfCode worked on Tug of Word again today. Added listeners to the application to manage the state of users in the lobby (mainly programmatic removal from UI and database, when applicable). Not the most exciting work, but necessary!
day 7 of #100DaysOfCode : Added a main content script with (currently) limited functionality to my chrome extension. When complete, the extension will show users the IPA pronunciation of highlighted words, and play an audio file (if available on Wiktionary).
It was down to the wire on day 6 of #100DaysOfCode: With 30 minutes to spare, I pushed a commit to github before the end of the day! Today's work included researching the Wiktionary API and creating a skeleton for the chrome extension that will use it. Stay tuned! :)
day 5 of #100DaysOfCode: Added anonymous users to my application, and even gave them funny names generated with npmjs.com/package/unique…. So, once the game is running, you might compete against 'sparkling_sailfish' or 'mushy_raven'!
day 4 of #100DaysOfCode: Less coding than the earlier days, but still spent some time fixing a bug. Consistent coding each day (even if it's only a little) is better than skipping days :)
day 3 of #100DaysOfCode: I addressed several TODOs in my code. Mainly I made the validation for my sign-in and registration forms more responsive. I also created a custom dropdown menu, and integrated the logged-in user's data while creating a game in the lobby.
day 2 of #100DaysOfCode: I created a registration page for my web game, Tug of Word. I also integrated both this page and the sign-in modal with @Firebase Auth. Now users can create accounts and retain data like rankings.
For day 1 of #100DaysOfCode I created a new modal for signing-in to an account on the web game I'm developing. The working name is 'Tug of Word', and it is very much a WIP (github.com/CalColson/tug-…). I also made this Twitter account! Excited to share more with you all soon!
