@Yamato_Armada It was good enough at that time but inferior to Western models. Some reliability issues, range and speed was acceptable for a first try. White Shark lacked fibre optical wire guidance which was included in the latest Tiger Shark.

@Yamato_Armada AKYA is 🇹🇷 first nationally developed heavy torpedo. It might not be on the same level like 🇩🇪 DM2A4 but the next improved variants will get there. 🇰🇷 developed White Shark heavy torpedos in the 90s inferior to Western ones. New Tiger Shark torpedoes excell now in performance.

@Yamato_Armada 214TN is more sustainable & future-proof. It's interesting how Turkish submarine development plan in many ways resemble Korean path towards domestic capability build-up. ROK Type214 KSS-II subs already utilize homegrown guided missiles and torpedoes which Türkiye also does. 1/

@CDNPolicyHawk Personally, Korea has done enough. This CPSP tender deviated from a naval procurement to an economic offset and industrial jobs program. Frankly, at this point I don't care anymore who'll win. It‘s not worth it for a $20 billion project to cater to a customer like that.

@CDNPolicyHawk There were critical voices in the military beforehand if such a PR cruise 14,000 km away was really necessary. KSS-III are important strategic assets and only deployed abroad for crucial excercises like RIMPAC.

@MarvSchultz And who did those German subs sunk in WWI? Canadian merchant ships torpedoed and Canadian sailors killed. Let's not forget heinous war crimes those folks did … to be repeated again in WWII. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC59…

@MarvSchultz Koreans fought naval battles with East Asia's deadliest Panokseon warships & ironclad turtle ships. Our legendary admiral Yi Sun-sin crushed the Japanese fleet in the 16th century invasion of Korea and is regarded as one of the greatest admirals of his time.

@MarvSchultz A submarine isn't a car & costs more than 🇺🇸$1 billion. By the way, BMW electric cars drive with Li-Ion batteries from Korean suppliers like LG Energy, Samsung SDI & SK On. Korea existed as a nation state since 668 AC way before 🇨🇦 or 🇩🇪.

@NoahGairn Great read! Imagine the even larger size of Hyundai's megashipyard in Ulsan. Nice scenes of Hanwha Ocean in Okpo: youtu.be/MUfaK9qCWJU

@FacelessManTwit @GuillLecuLell @TheW0lfpup @GermnRi46245078 @CiudadDidimos @robeslo I know that Korea is well ahead in material science, be it CMC and nickel superalloys. Unknown variable is how much Turkey has catched up in the last years. Filtering out all the loud propaganda noise to have a clear realistic picture is nearly impossible.

@GuillLecuLell @FacelessManTwit @TheW0lfpup @GermnRi46245078 @CiudadDidimos @robeslo Harriers: There isn't any realistic alternative to F-35Bs for Juan Carlos I. Spain would have to build a new CATOBAR aircraft carrier to put naval Rafale M on it, but with what budget and time frame? FCAS is as good as dead and no plan B in sight 🤷‍♂️

@FacelessManTwit @GuillLecuLell @TheW0lfpup @GermnRi46245078 @CiudadDidimos @robeslo Not so sure. TEI of Tusas started as a joint US-Turkish joint venture to produce GE F110s for F-16s. TAI is like Hanwha a top tier supplier of civilian aero engines for GE, P&W and RR as well afaik. Based on this experience they made progress into single crystal blades and blisks

@GuillLecuLell @FacelessManTwit @TheW0lfpup @GermnRi46245078 @CiudadDidimos @robeslo Korea started license production of 68 KF-5E/F jets in 1982 by Korean Air (not KAI). Earlier than TAI with F-16. To the contrary Turkey often followed Korean defense industry patterns, see Hürkus|KT-1 & Hürjet|T-50 development or Altay|K2 MBT and Firtina|K9 SPH tech transfer.
