I’ve done a lot of cable news interviews over the years, but I still get questions that shock me.

Amid growing concerns over food safety in the United States, President Donald Trump last month authorized the duty-free importation of 660 million pounds of cheap beef trimmings that will get mixed in with other cuts to make ground beef. Customers at the grocery store will have no way to identify this “mystery meat,” which is coming mostly from Brazil. President Trump's proclamation in August came just a day after he met in the White House with Joesley Batista, whose family controls the Brazilian company JBS, the largest beef producer in the world. JBS is notorious for food safety violations and admitted in 2017 to bribing thousands of Brazilian officials for favorable treatment. “It smells like a pretty corrupt deal,” says investigative journalist Eric Schlosser. At that time, I never knew anybody personally who has been detained or anything like that. And then literally this past Tuesday, a friend of mine, literally just sitting there crying in front of me on the phone, come to find out her cousin, who's been there since he was five years old, got detained on the way to a concert and is being deported. Mind you, he has no family, no nothing over there. And that was my first interaction, my first experience with somebody that I personally know. So it's sad to say there's a lot of issues that I speak on that really are just a shed of light because a lot of people don't care nothing about it. We're in our own little matrix. We're blessed to be able to have the comforts of living in the United States and not having to worry about certain things. But there's issues here and all over the world that, you know, we talk about even what happened with him with his job and his family. Those are taxpayer dollars that we're, as Americans, are paying that are being used to bomb innocent men, women, and children. So that's really what that was about. I think it's important for everybody to do that. Not everybody does it, though. Yeah, by me, everybody. I mean you guys just as much as me. Everybody has a platform. Some bigger than others. But I think especially for myself, understanding the platform that I have and also understanding how I got that platform. I got that platform because of what I do on the field. So I always use that as motivation to be better on the field because the only reason why y'all care to talk to me and not whoever else is because of the way I play the game. So I understand that me playing extremely well gives me a bigger platform. With that platform, I'll be questioning, like I told you guys before, on what I did with it. When I got it, that's the stuff I have to ask you to, to God. So for me, To sit there and say that, oh man, the money, whatever, that wasn't relevant to me. I think it's just important to do that as human beings because we all have our own issues and things that we're going through, which can get so lost in your own problems that you can't have compassion for other people in the world.,' You and Kyrie are fighting for the same cause. Do y'all have a relationship? 'Yeah, we've talked multiple times, especially in the last week. A lot of that stuff is just him supporting me and me supporting him and having to turn his back. I think the biggest thing is me and him align on the cause, which is humanity. We both care about humanity, regardless of skin color, race, anything like that. That's what I think, more than anything, when it comes to me and him, that we align on, just not being afraid to do that. I think some people are like, well, it's pretty black and white. We don't have to have all the answers to everything to know that. An innocent man, an innocent woman, an innocent child losing their life is not right. I don't need anybody to gaslight me into saying that. Well, you've got to ask. I just know that's not right, whether they're here in America or somewhere halfway across the world'

Shifting U.S. military support for Israel from foreign aid (Foreign Military Financing (FMF)) to procurement, as Congress is proposing, makes U.S. assistance automatic and divorces it from political conditions: “Critically, there is no procurement equivalent of an FMF condition. A procurement contract does not contain clauses requiring a foreign partner to modify its foreign policy, restrain its military operations, or make concessions on a peace process. …There is no residual space for demands about Gaza, the West Bank, or relations with Arab neighbors.” The U.S. blank check to Israel would no longer be a check at all — and as such, it would be less traceable, less visible, and impossible to withhold if Israel transgresses against U.S. national interests. The U.S. seldom uses the leverage over an Israel that its current military aid programs provide, but at the very least, we can *see* them and debate them. If Congress shifts aid to a procurement pipeline, we can’t. Even if the U.S. is paying Israel firms for services, it’s still aid. Why? It’s complicated, but the gist as I understand it boils down to the huge scale of the U.S. procurement base compared to Israel’s. Because the U.S. is a ginormous country, with runaway military spending that buys vast quantities of materiel, embedding Israeli firms deeply in the process guarantees those firms a huge market for their products, far beyond what would meet Israel’s defense needs. Among other things, producing military goods at higher quantity makes the per unit cost cheaper for Israel to supply itself (alongside the U.S.).
