Robin's eggs are small and blue. Unknown how this one got into the garden intact. Shoe shown for size reference.
In the nesting & mating season a great deal of jockeying for position & dominance happens. The prize? The right for your genes to continue as the drakes compete for the hens. I've seen a mallard drake push the head of a competitor right underwater while the hen stays safely away.

The Robin hunts by stopping to listen. With careful attention and keen hearing, the detect bugs and worms in the grass. They then move their head to pinpoint it's location and pounce. They still aren't always successful in getting a meal but they are often enough to survive.
