It's confirmed: The blackouts in Texas are primarily because of frozen instruments at gas, coal and nuclear plants -- as well limited supplies of gas, according to Ercot. Frozen wind turbines were the least significant factor. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
My caveat: No fuel is performing exceptionally well during this freeze. But coal, gas and nuclear make up 2/3 of Texas's power mix during the winter, so those outages are having the biggest impact. If wind were a larger share of the mix, those outages would be more significant
@ctraywick @MartinTruther I know some texans whom have no power because a frozen wind turbine. Must be built poorly as I've seen wind turbines keep spinning on top of ski mountains
@ctraywick @mmfa It can be prevented in the future but will cost lots of money. I’m in my 40’s and have never seen this. The question then becomes how much should we spend if it’s rarely going to ever happen?
@ctraywick Maybe they should look to capture the energy from the sun, store it, and then deploy when needed... texas sun/summer is no joke
@ctraywick Makes NO sense. Why would these instruments go nonfunctional in TX, when the same instruments work fine in the plants in much colder northern states? ERCOT is certainly lying here, again (because wind turbines operate at the south pole and colder northern states just fine).
@ctraywick Wind is only about 20 percent of Texas power. And because Texas wanted to avoid government regulation, they isolated themselves. So other states can't send them power.
@ctraywick This is false. It started with the solar panels then wind turbines which stressed the system. Do your homework vs the propaganda.
@ctraywick @bwareofdware hmm.. after 1989’s debacle they ignored recommendations.. after 2011 they again ignored recommendations and now we have 2021’s catastrophe. LETS SEE WHAT MASSIVE LITIGATION AND INVESTIGATIONS WILL YIELD. @ERCOT_ISO @GregAbbott_TX
@ctraywick NOT true. Nat Gas is the backup for Wind/Solar. So when the ly don't work Natty Gas steps up. When wind/solar FAIL there is not enough backup to replace it. So it's either one or the other. #unsustainable
