the best way to get good at something is usually to just practice actually doing the thing in question. a lot of very capable people outsmart themselves with complex plans that involve working a lot on fake prerequisites.

Dvorak right-hand keyboard layout... What an absolute boss that guy has turned out to be. My left hand/arm strain disappeared. My definite recommendation for left handed typers.

Funny thing is that how persuading those idiots can sound even to the smartest of people. Had Steve Jobs not postponed his medical treatments listening to those tricksters at the time, we might have seen him on stage instead of Tim cook at the late apple event.
