A non-trivial problem with public discourse today is that people are either incapable or uninterested in nuance and unwilling to recognize the inherent ambiguity of language. And some people with large platforms are not capable of subtle reasoning or they benefit from pretending they are not.
"The grieving widow wants her husband’s life’s work to continue and prosper. This is weird and unsettling to me." They’re not human anymore. They have so lost their humanity they can’t even relate to the most basic human emotions.

This is profoundly dishonest. Her job was to stop a disruption @StanfordLaw. She didn't. Instead she took a student group's designated time to give her own pre-planned speech in which she suggested limiting #freespeech policies at SLS and questioned the value of free speech in general. THEN she said to law student hecklers who had already been shouting down Judge S. Kyle Duncan’s talk: "I look out and I say, 'I'm glad this is going on here.'" And in this piece she retcons her actions to claim she really wanted "civil discourse"!? If that’s true how does she square her desire for civil discourse with the students who shouted that they hoped the Judge’s daughters get raped? Or who had signs that read, “JUDGE DUNCAN CAN'T FIND THE CLIT"? Or who shouted, "You couldn't get into Stanford!" "You're not welcome here, we hate you!" to a Circuit Court Judge and "We hate FedSoc students, fuck them, they don't belong here either!"? This is gaslighting — pure and simple.
