It’s kinda obvious. To sell something you need marketing and someone like Steve Jobs to promote it. Everyone knows Jobs but not many people know Wozniak. And let’s be honest, most programmers suck at marketing. We tend to focus too much on the technical side. A big mistake in a capitalist world where even poorly built products can make millions.

Writing code by hand seems to be becoming a thing of the past. It is what it is. I don’t see much point in imagining alternative realities just to avoid accepting this one. Better to try to find new meaning in this reality (personally, I’m still struggling with that, tho)
There is probably an alternative universe where the programming language developers didn't use the word "token" to denote a lexeme and the whole weird cryptocurrency-esque discourse about LLM outputs has never happened.
@tsoding Humans have been dreaming of AI for a long time. It was inevitable. It just happens that today’s version runs on tokens. Some people need to accept reality instead of dreaming about alternate universes where everything is still the way it used to be.
If you're still writing code by hand without AI just stop open-sourcing it. The stuff you’ve spent months building probably isn’t any better than what AI can produce in a couple of hours anyway.
