Whenever I see something in the news showing a visualization and they say “here is what the data is telling us” I am 100% suspicious of what they show me. It’s so easy to manipulate visuals to show what you want while technically showing the real data.

One of the elements covered in my data viz course today was how to conjure emotion with your data story. One of the examples provided was this viz by @periscopic on gun deaths in the US. It has to be one of the most emotiolly striking vizs I've ever seen. guns.periscopic.com

Sometimes you have to be a bit shameless to get your first job in data. Messaging people, sending your resume to people, calling recruiters, posting on LinkedIn about needing a job - no one will remember that in 10 years, they will just see your success. It really is a grind.
