Enjoyed the first episode of #1883TV but wish I understood more of the dialog(ue). Can’t imagine people in the Wild West really mumbled like that. They worked outdoor with noisy wind and galloping horses. They’re more likely to have clearly enunciated, like in Lancashire mills.

No one seems to have asked a Ukrainian how to pronounce Київ/Kyiv. Americans now assert it’s Keev, rhymes with sleeve. In fact Kyiv is two syllables. The closest approximation in English would be /ˈkiːjɪv/ KEEyiv. In Ukrainian the final v is very lax, so it’s [ˈkɪjiu̯] (KEY-eew)
