A teacher excluded a wheelchair-bound student from participating in a class activity in front of all the parents. This is heartbreaking. We all need to speak up when we see this. People with disabilities deserve the same respect as everyone else.
The child in the wheelchair could've easily been included with the hand-holding while the teacher helps them, but the inability to accommodate them will leave behind a hurtful memory and set a terrible example for all the kids in the class.
People asked me not to use the term "wheelchair-bound" because it's offensive, and I didn't know, I'm sorry, I'm not gonna use the term anymore. I've seen it used in the media forever so I didn't think twice. See how easy that was, conservatives?
@davenewworld_2 The teacher goes on to ignore the girl in the wheelchair like she’s a potted plant or something. And none of the parents in the audience were bothered by that, either. The problem isn’t just the teacher. It’s the “community” in the peanut gallery.
@davenewworld_2 Why the exclusion? This child can do nearly the same as the others. The routine just needed to be changed a tiny bit.
@davenewworld_2 All kids could have helped the child in the wheelchair - missed opportunity for inclusion
@davenewworld_2 Not just her, but all of the adults in the room that let it happen too.
@davenewworld_2 Where were HER PARENTS???? They need to be her first and best advocates. Not that I would not also have expected ANY PARENT to go to the aid of a child, but for goodness sake was this child there alone?
@davenewworld_2 I have a wheelchair bound child. She is 27 now. She is non-verbal. Her mother and I were together until she was an adult but split 9 yrs ago. The church never got a handicap ramp. They gave us difficulty in getting her communion, and basically didn't want her involved at all.
@davenewworld_2 This was heartbreaking. The little girl's face as she was looking around for anyone to acknowledge her. 💔 It would not have been difficult for the teacher to embrace her and include her.
@davenewworld_2 As a teacher, this is sickening to watch. Two of the many jobs we teachers have to utilize with kids are encouragement and empathy. This is DEFINITELY NOT HOW TO ENCOURAGE KIDS. If you cannot encourage or have no empathy for kids, you have no business TEACHING!!🤯 PERIOD!🤨
