The fact there is no train from Austin to Houston is insane. It could easily be one of the most profitable routes in the country, it would be better for the environment, people’s safety and convenience.
Instead your two main options are driving or flying. driving is ok assuming you don’t mind waiting in traffic and wasting hours driving you could otherwise spend working on the train. Flying is just inconvenient. You have to drive to the airport, go through security, board, fly, then drive from the airport again to get into the city. A train would be much faster because it could be from downtown to downtown or at least closer and way less of a logistical nightmare.
@davidhogg111 What about Austin to Dallas or Austin to San Antonio. Makes too much sense.
Most profitable in the country? WTF did you study at Harvard?Obviously not economics or finance. Amtrak cant even cover operating costs, let alone the capital costs, and high speed rail is more expensive. Once you arrive in Houston or Austin (or Dallas, or San Antonio) how do you expect to get around without a car? DART, and other public transportation are very limited.
@davidhogg111 Democrats get money for such things, steal it, and things never get built. Same with the LA to San Fran train. BILLIONS.
@davidhogg111 Go home. Texas doesn’t want or need colonizers like you.
@davidhogg111 If there were a demand for rail service it would exist. If Harvard actually educated instead of indoctrinate, you'd clearly understand this concept.
