NEW: @RepDonBacon, who heads a House military quality of life panel, tells me the Army needs to explore permanently basing an armor brigade in Europe. Bacon said our Broken Track investigation into armor unit suicides raises "a massive red flag." armytimes.com/news/your-army…
Bacon said Broken Track was the first he had learned of the problems that have plagued Army armor units in recent years, adding that he found our findings "deeply troubling ... we're talking about human beings, not appliances." armytimes.com/news/your-army…
@davis_winkie @RepDonBacon Didn't they take the armor units out of Europe in the 90s or something? Feels like that was an old debate.
@davis_winkie @RepDonBacon Is the argument that eg basing a unit in Poland rather than deploying it there means soldiers can have wives and kids there, so no family separation?
@davis_winkie @RepDonBacon Thanks for your reporting! We need more people like you and @StevenBeynon looking in to the issues that affect our service members.
@davis_winkie @RepDonBacon Sort of like the armor that is permanently based in Afghanistan?
@davis_winkie @halbritz @RepDonBacon Make it a division!
@davis_winkie @RepDonBacon Great work Davis. The wheels turn slowly, but you’ve made an important finding. They can plan rebasing or they can plan fewer rotations, but to just ignore the evidence should not be an option.
@davis_winkie @halbritz @RepDonBacon Reactivate 3AD in Germany or Poland now. Fill out the ABCTs over time. Accompanied tours.
